Mega Man X2 Relocalization

Hey, it's been awhile, so here's a little update:

I wrote my own vwf routine from scratch, and it works almost perfectly (currently it's breaking on the stage select and credits).

I wouldn't change the font any further, I think it looks fantastic as it is. The right spacing makes all the difference.

Font looks nice for a VWF (I prefer larger text, but that's out of the question for obvious reasons).

Got the stage select bugs all fixed up:


Now I just need to do some code refactoring to fix a glitch that overflows the DMA list, and then the vwf code should be good to go. After that, just the dialogue will need restructured to account for using less tiles.

Wow, that's one hell of a change! You said the dialogue needs to be restructured. What do you mean?

Actually, for the stage dialogue just scaling down the width of the textbox may be enough.


But for stuff like the intro or epilogue text, it will look better to put more words on a line to fill the textbox.

I see. Perhaps we can adjust the dialogue to make it even closer to the original script? At the same time, we'll probably have to adjust the lines too, since they'll look off with all of that space. Or is there anything that can be done regarding that?

DarkSamus, quick question. For the Air Dash hack for X1, would it be possible to enable double tapping the D-Pad for the Air Dash? Just curious.

I took a break from coding and was busy getting the relocalization script integrated into my source code for this project. While I messing with that, I made a 'clean' version of the script without all the control codes so we can see if we want to do any further edits with the text now that space is no longer an issue. I'm sure there's some lines that can be made to sound better.

I don't know offhand, but it's probably doable.

Really cool! Taking a look at the script right now. I see you've already extended 'Vs. Counter Hunters.'
I don't see the get weapon stuff being mentioned, or the ones in the item menu. I think firstly, the Scrap Shoot and Rushing Burner should be a thing.

- Scrap Shoot
- Rushing Burner
- On 72, I'd extend "We have possession of Zero." to "We have Zero's body in our possession."
- On 109, "Prevail, X!" can be "I'm counting on you, X."
- 171, the "..." should become "...X?"

I think that's it for now :)

Click the tab at the bottom to see the stage select, weapon get, and credits text.

I didn't put the pause menu text here because that's handled differently than the dialogue text (it's already been modified though: 'Scrap.S' and 'R.Burner').

I updated those now. I know that the Japanese version went with Scrap Shoot, but wouldn't Scrap Shot sound better grammatically? When talking about bullets you don't say "I only have one shoot left", you would say "I only have one shot left". Also, using another game as an example, Mega Man X5 uses Crescent Shot.

Good work! Perhaps we should go with Scrap Shot, as you said, DarkSamus. I can take a look at the text & offer some corrections later. Would be a good idea to get those out of the way.

Let's see...

- Line 72: Replace "cks" with "X".
- Line 85: capitalize "perhaps". Might want to capitalize any word that comes after ellipses on a different line.
- Line 91: Replace "Ghaha" with "Gahaha".
- Lines 87, 95, & 103: Can you add an exclamation mark to the end of these sentences? Or a period? And if possible, could you have them on one line? It looks a bit off.
- Misc. Text Line 21: Would it be possible to put a space between "C.Hunter"? Or if you can spell out the whole name, that'd be cool too.

I agree with all of Ghaleon's ideas, except the first one. The 'X' is being cut off. If I saw 'X', I'd read it as 'ex'. The rest are nice ideas.

I guess that's a tough one. I read it as him correcting himself since he's one of the few who know that X is a Mega Man. So that tells me that he slipped there & context-wise, we're supposed to wonder who Sagesse really is. Given that we know now that he's Wily, it makes more sense for him to be correcting himself, I think. The translation I was working on actually had him call X by his full name, but broken up.
