I went through the readme file, and I was wondering, is there any way to reduce the boss levels during the Zero Space 4 refights? Having the 8 mavericks at level 96 means their life bars are so long that it's a slog to fight through them (especially the final phase of Tidal Whale's fight). I tried looking at the workbook, but unfortunately I don't understand it enough to be able to come up with an answer myself.

hi i'd like to share a few things and ideas with you guys
in the X5 when Zero defeat crescent grizzly and gain C-Sword he loses 2 differents basic attacks, if Zero's double jump worked the same way like in X6 he could maintain those 2 lost attacks

about DmgTables, I've been trying to identify a few techniques and enemies. Here's what I've found so far (they are in black)

and F-Splasher have a little problem

if someone is interested i used tweaks workbook to find these 2 options on X5 (if i remember correctly there's others 2 situation but i dont know how to find them, ground dash+dash jump and jumping out of a ride armor, there's another one, falling off the ground while using dash)
Wall Dash Jump (Allow Air Dash after Wall Dash Jump)
3F880 : 00 00 00 00

Dash Jump (Allow Air Dash after Dash Jump)
3F384 : 00 00 00 00

i think Gaea and X deserve the same tratament given to Shadow and X, unlocking the ability to Air Dash and use Hover (and it would be really cool if gaea was immune to magma from burn dinorex stage).

in "X5 prototype(july 28, 2000)" Sigma (intro stage) and Tidal Whale have some voice clips, would it be possible to restore it?(i dont know if its still present in the final version of the game) Sigma says "OWARIDA!" (its from her final form in X4) and tidal whale uses Frost Walrus's voices clip, i think it would be pretty cool since the majority of enemies dont have voice clips

Yikes. I'm surprised this one went unnoticed for this long.

Thanks for identifying those moves on the damage table. It's nice to have them documented.

As for changin C-Slash input... this was discussed before, same as keeping F-Splasher and the regular Air Dash separate. I just don't see the point of adding redundant moves. Getting a move replaced by an upgraded one is pretty standard (X4 does it, Zero 1 does it...). I'm against adding more button inputs and unnecessary complexity just for the sake of "having everything always".
Instead, my approach was to fix whatever downside the new moves have (Crescent Slash's immunity to C-Slash was removed, it does the same damage as the regular air saber; and F-Splasher was made cancellable so it works the same way as a regular air dash)
But anyway, IIRC these were not hard to implement. It might be worth adding them as optional hacks in the readme in the future.

The same goes for Air Dash on all characters/armors. It made more sense in X6 because of its stage design is much more restrictive. I don't see it as much as an improvement in X5 to have it, but it might be worth adding it as an optional hack eventually.

As for the voice clips... it's in the "possible, but I'm not interested" category. It's just lot of work for two reused clips, most likely never intended to be in any version of the final product.

Megatronformayor

If you're going to rebalance the bosses is it only going to apply to the main 8 mavericks and Dynamo.

Danielxz

 yeah all these optional hacks are really cool to customize the rom, i changed the "incomplete armor" system to work the same as Tweaks thanks to your X5 workbook ("Display incomplete armor as > complete armor"). The only one that I couldn't change was in the Parts system, I would be glad if in the future you put some instruction to revert this option on the workbook and some instructions to modify Lv. and Health Bar from Bosses just like in X6 because i think the game is pretty easy and with more HP i'll be able to make an more detailed DmgTable just like i did with Tweaks

and about voice clips, X has all voices from X4(my favorite is the one in green) and in the game(final version) he doesn't have any when using special weapons basic/charged shots, also X5 is visually ugly, i think making others things looking cool would be helping to ocult those "negative points"

and here a few cheats if someone want to explore around the map, these "camera" cheats will remove the limits of it allowing to go further left, right, down and up
Camera > : 8009A21C 00002710
Camera < : 8009A21E 00000000
Camera \/ : 8009A220 00001770
Camera /\ : 8009A222 00000000

and those is to allow you to go there, the best characters to use it are Zero and Falcon, "walk through wall" to bypass any obstacles, "Unlimited jump" to fly and "Infinite Health" to dont die
Unlimited jump and air dash move : 8009A126 00000000
Infinite Health : 8009A0FC 00002020
Walk Through Walls
8002FDD0 00002400
8002FE04 00002400
8002FE80 00002400
800305D4 00002400
80030ECC 00002400
80038A50 00002400
80038EEC 00000011
80038EEE 00002402

the same camera cheats from Rockman X5(May_1_2000_Prototype), you can even explore the entire Spiral Pegasion Stage map (you'll need to get past the walls)
Câmera > : 80094BA4 00002710
Câmera < : 80094BA6 00000000
Câmera \/ : 80094BA8 00002710
Câmera /\ : 80094BAA 00000000

and again the same camera cheats from Rockman X5(Playstation, July 28, 2000), this version is the best since you can open the debug menu pressing select, going to ->Debug Work Control ->Player Free Move:0, and activating free move
Camera > : 800A372C 00002710
Camera < : 800A372E 00000000
Camera \/ : 800A3730 00001770
Camera /\ : 800A3732 00000000

Yes, I will work on rebalancing bosses eventually (shorter lifebars, stronger attacks), that would be my first priority after fixing current bugs.

But no, I will most likely not work on more cosmetic stuff, including voice clips, nor do I plan to replicate every single option available in X6 Tweaks in X5 (but you're welcome to keep posting your finds! I'll add all the useful stuff to my documentation)

I keep repeating these things every few pages, so I better just leave it at that 😅
I'll let you know if/when I'm actually working on these games again (atm, I'm not)

have you returned to work on the Megaman x5 Improvement Project Addendum?

BlazeHeatnix

What are people using to hack the X games? I'm looking to see about modifying the text (for translation) and the sound/music/voice files. If it involves hard hex table editing, I'm pretty much boned. Is there a utility that can at least help?

P.S. Acediez, your inbox is full apparently.

Yes. I'd rather have project questions in the threads, they tend to repeat.

All of this is really helpful. Although I should point out that gledson999's blogspot is only open to invited readers, so linking there for his tools is useless. I hope he allows releasing those tools.

Unrelated, but I noticed while playing that while the Falcon Armor gives X a distinct, noticeable yellow on his palette, the difference with Gaea Armor is almost negligible. Unarmored has a slight greenish hue while Gaea is entirely gray, and the difference is barely noticeable. If you ever update this again, I would recommend making it a bit more distinct. Maybe black or a much darker gray.

ZEROmaverick

I was thinking exactly the opposite, I think the yellow should be... well less yellow and more white...

I love the slight distinction between incomplete armors, it kind of reminds me X4 when activates the code for the Ultimate Armor resulting in an X with purple parts instead of lightblue/greenish.

I like they are unnoticeable at first sight until you pay some attention in the pallette

Yes, the idea comes from X4  :)
And the idea was to use subtler colors mainly, but I made an exception for Falcon because I couldn't figure out a lighter yellow tone that wouldn't look dull (and no other color seemed suitable for Falcon). Yellow works better against blue if they're on equal-ish saturation, imho.

But anyway, it's impossible to have one option agreed by all on these matters, so I won't try. You can always check the address for the palettes in my workbook and change them to your liking.

ZEROmaverick

Yes, I agree, other "yellows" would probably looks dull.

Nice to know you took the idea from X4 :D

BlazeHeatnix

Hell, I'm the one who suggested the idea to him in the first place. :P

im not experienced in romhacking, i think i have done everything that i can with your workboook, changed incomplete armors, giga atk from complete armor to body part, flight(falcon) from complete armor to leg part and DmgTables that i have done one for X, i really dont like that blue thing that appears when i-frames activates, its something like crystals, i just "remove" them all, but with X5 is a little more complicated since the majority of special weapons are kinda broken and just kills everything very easily, and it dont have a patcher like Tweaks making everything much more fast and easy

i dont really like incomplete armors displaying as X but in my opinion this gaea(X) looks really cool and the falcon(X yellowed) was a bit weird, and those 2 motive made me change the incomplete armors

at least when displaying as complete armor i really like the yellow pallete

redmagejoe

Do you have instructions for how I might use the No Music change patch, but put Deep Sea back in? That's really the only track I'd like to change.

How about if you use this logo only in the retranslation of Megaman X4 Undub?

RitaXBianka90

good night do you speak portuguese?  if yes it would be easier I'm not very good at english some words I use the translator, well let's go I wanted to know if the Megaman X5 Improvment Project will still continue I would like if possible there were two little things in version 2.0.4, first the clip of the voice screen with the speech Rockman X5 second that change the logo to the japanese version only with the name Megaman instead of Rockman but with the logo of the japanese version the same thing that they did in the X6 Tweaks and third if possible that it had the weapons of the bosses pro Zero could have something like take the capsule from the whale phase or else break that capsule wall from the Dark Necrobar phase another one that could walk through the spikes like Spiral Pegasus or else that could break black blocks instead of pushing something that don't make me review the phases with Zero several times and I could beat the game with zero in reviewing a phase and if possible add the fourth armor giga atack
