Hello,

I have a SNES rom in .bin format (TOSEC) which doesn't appear to be supported by SD2SNES.  Is there a tool or emulator feature out there that will allow me to convert the .bin format to .smc?

I've tried the simple case of renaming the file but this doesn't work.

SNES doesn't have a "bin format". Just rename the ROM.
If it doesn't work, then something is unusual.

It wouldn't happen to be one of the Nintendo PowerFest games, would it?
Don't know if those games are even supported.

The .bin files are from this set:

Nintendo Super Famicom & Super Entertainment System - Games (TOSEC-v2014-07-01_CM)

Not certain why these guys would release a SNES ROM in a .bin format? All the files in this set are in the same format and renaming them doesn't work. They aren't recognised by SD2SNES before and after renaming them.

Just checked two different games and they are just renamed from .smc to .bin

I've renamed two roms from .bin to .smc and neither are displayed on the SD2SNES menu.  They have both been copied to the roms folder.

Is there a reason you're not telling us which game it is?

Also, forget TOSEC for cartridge-based consoles, it sucks. TOSEC was made by a bunch of Europeans who grew up on C64s and Amigas, so those sets are phenomenally detailed. Cartridge systems are better served by GoodTools and No-Intro.

None.

Addams Family, The (1991)(Ocean)(US)
Super Mario World (1991)(Nintendo)(US)

Looks like I need to seek out No-Intro then?

Did you try renaming to .sfc?

.smc is a sort of outdated extension.
Also I would imagine SD2SNES would not want another headers (headers are another thing that is outdated, a header is 512 extra bytes of garbage that is probably only meaningful to really old floppy-disk era devices.)

A good Super Mario World ROM without header is exactly 524,288 bytes. I think Addams Family is a 1,048,576-byte game.

No, the TOSEC dumps of these games are byte identical to the No-Intro versions.

I do not own a SD2SNES, however, I'm certain that your roms should be working.  Hopefully someone can help you.
