Best picture translations programs out there?
« on: April 29, 2019, 02:14:25 pm »
Searching through the internet I managed to stumble upon a saga Frontier Japanese editor and I'm in the process of figuring out how it works however all of the buttons are obviously in Japanese so I need a program that will translate a screenshot of the buttons to English text. Does anything like this exist? I tried a few camera apps on my phone and none of them seem to work very well.

The following link is the editor and all the files needed to run it.

Tested the program but it seems to be fairly inconsistent on translation and only a few passages make any sense.

Guess I'll have to teach myself a language.

If it is a PC program then there are various resource extractors, and some of the task automation/macro making programs also have means to snatch text from windows that might not otherwise be amenable to a copy and paste.

Those will at least give you it in text form, or at the very least allow you to change background colours a bit to allow OCR programs to do their job better.

Indeed. Showin is the first thing that comes to mind, though it's pretty old.

Maybe Resource Hacker, but you'll have to do some digging with that one.

Wait, you just want to translate a few buttons on a program? Post screenshots here, we'll do it! :D

Also I think your thread title meant to say "translation" not "transition". ;)

Fixed, thank you for letting me know. There's a lot of buttons but here's the link to the skill page

The XXXX skill list on the far right I don't need I already know so you dont need to translate it.

Well, that's a lot of buttons. :D But I can identify a few from sight, and you'd be amazed at how good Google Translate's camera function is these days. The word that crops up in almost every button is 性能 which means "ability", so 戦闘アイテム性能 means "battle item ability".

So far I can say this much:
01a - battle item ability
01b - sword ability
01c - gun ability
09a - battle character name
09b - item name
09e - monster name
13b - body type name
15 - battle BGM (background music)

I'm sure others can fill in the spaces, but those are the ones I can get without needing a dictionary and Google Translate's camera. :)
