Editing GUI In Melty Blood.

After playing the Steam release of Melty Blood Actress Again for a while I decided to move onto the community version which is based off the very first pc port the game received and thus one feature that is missing is the side borders for each character.

I've been through the Steam version and found all the image assets however I have no idea what file type is coded to write them on the screen. Is there some sort of standard programs use for this, otherwise I've completely hit a brick wall.
