Update By: Gideon Zhi

The gameplay making up Dicing Knight is a queer combination of hectic action and roguelike strategy. When you first start the game, you have one dungeon to go after (that of the Lindwurm) and you have one slot for an Orb, although you won't have anything to put in it at first. After you complete the first dungeon you should have enough total experience to be level 2, and you can go after the next dungeon (and use the lottery ticket from the boss to acquire a powerup orb in a game of chance) and so the game progresses.

Sure, it's simplistic in nature, but it's one hell of a lot of fun. You unlock another game mode for completing it, and there's a huge bonus dungeon as well. It's all randomly generated as most roguelikes are, but it removes a lot of the element of chance by running everything in realtime and giving you almost complete control over your destiny. All in all, Dicing Knight is a fantastic game, and is not to be missed!

You can get the translation at Aeon Genesis or in our database here.

The translation is complete, but untested. Please let the folks at AGTP know if there are any problems with it!

Ergh, the form apparently ate my quotes. Could someone fix it? It's supposed to read,

NC'll have to handle that, but in the meantime, do you have screenshot of the Japanese title screen (and release info if possible) for the database? I can go on and add that in the interim. :)

Other than that... gamefaqs claims it was released on 05/31/04 by Qute. Can't verify that, though.

Thanks, Gid. I'll have to wait a couple days since I forgot NC's doing some back-end work.

Fixed.

I haven't played the game yet, but it looks like a good job :)

I'll try it out as soon as I can. I like random-dungeon games... But not like Untold Legends. >_> That was... not too cool...

Wow, this game looks pretty slick. I'm not a terribly huge Rouge-like fan, but it does look pretty darn interesting.

I added the rest of those items to the entry. That part of the backend is back online in it's original state. I don't need to have it down anymore. I've made a new control center I'm working with.

What exactly is a "rogue" game? Any examples I might possibly have seen?
And this ROM is hell to track down. Haven't found anything remotely resembling a download or torrent *anywhere*.

The most popular roguelike of all time is very likely Nethack. Diablo is similar, but very dumbed down. Comparing this to Diablo, however, is like comparing Zelda to Hydlide. They're very different creatures, and this one's way better.

The reason you probably haven't been able to find the rom is that it's a fairly recent dump of a game that never got very wide circulation in the first place.

A "roguelike" game is just what it sounds like, a game that plays like Rogue. An example would be games like "Shiren the Wanderer"...

This emulator works great: Oswan 1.7

I'm going to try this out, I'll let you know of any errors Gideon!

Edit: I found a MUCH newer version of the emulator (last updated yesterday actually).

No, it's a Wonderswan emulator that runs on the PSP (or PC, there's a version for each.)  So yes, you can play this game on your PSP.

Man, don't be knocking the Diablo games! They may not be true roguelikes, but they do what they do very, very well. The only thing the Hydlide series has ever had going for it is an interesting idea or two and occasionally some nice music (accompanied by more than a handful of outright bad design and graphics that range from serviceable to atrocious).

Really? I figured it would be a clunky mess that sustained itself mainly through fanservice. I'll have to check it out, just in the hopes of seeing the Pistol Load or something.

I found one nasty bug.

- Press Start when in a map
- Press X-right (the keyboard right)
- Press Start

This causes the game to go kinda crazy, however this also happens in the original version as well
