Pretty sure I remember Queue is from Canada.

Oh.  I thought he's currently in NY.  Maybe I'm wrong.

Actually, it turns out I was mixing up Queue with Zhade heh!

Fancy seeing you here!   ;D
Hey Lightning! :woot!:

OrangeCrush666

Is there a step by step for the MSU1 patching? I patched this over and over for over a year to try to have it running but all fails. It freezes within 2 seconds of start up for both Snes everdrive and Snes9X. I've tried converting header to non header, sfc and smc, different msu1 files, remastered and darks msu1 pcms. Tried removing MSU1 patching and even patched on top of it with the MSU1 from the main source to see if that was viable. Makeing sure to follow all naming steps for file placement. Every which way and upwards I've tried and I've patched many other roms with msu1 to check if I'm doing it wrong, but this one seems impossible for me. Help!!!

I've always been intentionally vague about where I am, but I am south of Canada, north of Mexico, Pacific timezone.

I'm doing fine hmsong, healthy, and inflation isn't uniform (an average of 7% doesn't mean everything is universally 7% more expensive; many things I buy regularly are the same price they were 10 years ago).

OrangeCrush666, let's see what we can get figured out. As far as I recall, I've tested MSU-1 on ZSNES, one of byuu's emulators (I forget if it was BSNES, Higan or Ares/Lucia), Mesen-S and I think Snes9x... but less sure on that last one. I don't have a flash cart, and my SNES is carefully packed in a box (in my closet), so have never tried on real hardware.

Freezing two seconds after startup is pretty odd; that'd be more likely due to a patch gone wrong than MSU-1 stuff failing.

First off, to be sure you're starting from the correct ROM, it should be headerless and have a CRC32 checksum of D0176B24. In the ZPS patcher, the CRC32 label will be green. If the CRC32 label in the patcher is red, the ROM is wrong.

For most emulators, the MSU-1 audio files (PCM files) need to be named the same as the ROM, with a hyphen and decimal number following the matching filename. Also, the MSU marker file also needs to match the filename. For example:
SoM_Turbo.smc
SoM_Turbo.msu
SoM_Turbo-0.pcm
SoM_Turbo-1.pcm
SoM_Turbo-2.pcm
SoM_Turbo-3.pcm
...

But that's sorta it... The MSU-1 files need to be named correctly and in the same folder as the ROM (except for ZSNES, which supports an MSU subfolder). Patching should be fairly easy, as it's just a matter of making sure you have a vanilla ROM and feed it through the ZPS patcher (and leave [Audio] and [Enable_MSU-1] On). There could be some crazy combination of settings that would break it that I overlooked, so try with all Turbo settings at default at least once (since that's what I just tested to confirm MSU-1 was working).

PCM file 45 is the "Whalesong" that plays immediately at startup, so you can always try different files for that to get immediate feedback on if it's working.

When you next try to set this up, write down what you're doing step-by-step as you do it and relay it here, as a potential way for me (or others, people here are helpful) to try and see if there's a step in the process I'm forgetting to describe.

Glad you're doing well.  Prices everywhere is increasing, esp the consumption goods like vegetables and gasoline.

Hi.  I've known about this hack for a while, but I just never got to it until now.  I played the default setting, and I enjoyed it.  Thanks.

Now, I'm trying different settings.  Among them, for Bonus Weapon Damage - Double Bonus Damage, the description says, "This includes affinity, attack up / down and elemental strength / weakness (and [Element_Match_Defense] if enabled)."  What is the, "attack up / down"?  Are you talking about Lunar Boost?

Using the patcher defaults, if I only deselect "revisit goblin village" the player character will freeze when opening a chest.

Is there documentation on how to manually switch up spell-cooldown category?
I want to set <Lunar Magic> to <Long Magic Recharge Time>, to be precise

EDIT:
It seems each spell hosts a cool-down value of their own rather than pointing to a global one.

Editing 3020AA and 3020AB did the trick to change <Lunar Magic>'s cooldown,
said values were found on my rom below the following chunk of data:

20 98 EB 3A 3A 48 E2 20 B9 70 E1 0A C2 20 29 FF 00 AA BF 76 20 F0 AA E2 20 B9 09 E0 C2 20 F0 0C 8A 4A 4A 49 FF FF 18 DA 63 01 FA AA 8A FA 9F 15 D7 7E E2 20 A9 00 99 09 E0 6B AF 08 18 7E 29 FF

You know, you can just open the zps file with the Notepad.  And then find whatever you want to find.  Just search for "Magic_Recharging", and one of the things has all the codes related to it.  There, you can change whatever spell into whichever recharge you want.

Thank you!
Didn't occur to me this would be so straightforward!

You're welcome, but you should thank Queue instead.  He's the one who specifically created this in this specific manner, so that other people can have easier time editing some of the minor stuff (he labeled many things, so that there will be less confusions).  I don't know enough about programming, so my understand was limited, but for many of his hacks, he made it very edit-friendly.  He even made a section at the end, so that people will be able to test/add their own hacks very easily.

And if you use the compilation of the addresses/values that the hacker community made, it's even easier to add/edit.  I learned a lot from Queue and other hackers, just from this game alone.

It's been about 9 months since the last release of the Reborn/Turbo script. Based on the feedback I've received since then, it's in an extremely good place and it'd be fine without another update. I just have a few minor things here and there that I've collected over the months.

While we're waiting on Queue to return, I can take additional feedback on the script if anyone has it. I'm erring on the side of not changing things if it can be helped, but I always enjoy hearing suggestions.

Hey!  It's been a long time.  I hope the most recent version gets applied to Turbo one day.

Queue sent me a link to a patcher awhile back, but the link expired. The patcher was only for Reborn though. I'm sure I can find someone who could help me update the Reborn patch to V1.12 (if the need arose), but Turbo would keep using Reborn V1.11 until he returns. I'd prefer not to do anything without Queue though.

On Mac, your best bet is to install VirtualBox and use a Windows VM. You can get a free 90 day licensed VM from Microsoft here: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/ Just select MSEdge on Win10 x64 Stable in the dropdown, and VirtualBox as the VM platform. You can find guides online for how to use VirtualBox, I'm not going to provide instructions.
