I played a few hours with a new set-up, and now I got some more balance feedback. Sadly, little of it is positve. First things first the fact that the game still feels like Secret Of Mana despite the massive amount of changes these hacks do is pretty amazing, that this is even working in the first place is incredible.

But wow is the balance borekd with the default setting. I got to the Fire Gigas fight and had him spamming "Flame Saber" spells and ran out of Magic a lot, these changes only exacerbate the core problems with the vanilla SoM game, as in most bosses always were far too reliant on magic spam - by the player.

Now with both of these hacks enabled by default it's pure bullshit stacked against the player.

I tried to disable at least the "Flame Saber" spell he could do, but either I made a mistake, or the new rom I got was not compiled properly (?) in any case it's still in there now...

Generally, imo a hack like this improving the game should strife to fix the shortcomings of the game, thus the balance in these Gigas and similar fights later on (I can only imagine how much of a pain pure land dragon fights might be, wow...) should be directed at melee weapons instead of spellcasting.
An alternative to stopping the thing outright from using that spell completely could be, maybe the player doing half the damage with weapons inflicted by it Instead of literally 0, my god...  ::)´ Maybe have him  only infrequently casting it, as well? 

Another balancing problem was already mentioned, but I think I have something to add with regard to "Mud Saber" the Goblins in the Fire Temple did a great job stunlocking me to death there - twice.  ;D  It might not be the worst idea to reduce the attack frequency enemies can have, a cooldown, maybe even (if doable) a stamina system for them? I didn't get killed in the Forest on my Way to the Witch, but it was already apparent how badly this could go with the arrow spam there.

Another thing I would file under balancing is the ridiculous amount of gold enemies drop, while the unique armor hack is a great idea, not limiting the resources the player has to spam their way with items through the game is, imo running contrary to the rest of the game. Hell, I could even imagine limiting the items back to 4, if there were some better ways to defend against frequent tag teaming and attack spamming enemies.

Maybe I just need to get the hang of the new blocking system? the fact that I can manual block goes against years of muscle memory so it's very hard to get out of the habit of just moving away instead of blocking... ;D

Assuming you enabled the quickspell when patching (there are two options, so you need to know which one you enabled), you tap L to open the quickspell menu, then do a series of direction button, depending on what spell you want to use.  While I can use thousands of words to explain, but the best way to actually understand is to experiment with it.

"Simpler Patterns" is what is most natural to use, imo. Go into the ring meune and choose the spell you want to bind. Hold LB + D Pad (the whole D-Pad is viable) and then press the Button you Assigned the Snes B key to. For me playing on an Xbox One controller this looks like that for example LB + D-Pad Up + A to assign the spell (you should hear the same SFX as selecting a weapon in the normal game, that is the confirmation it worked) LB + D-Pad Up - brings up the spell targeting on the fly and confirming with A again. You can also switch between the Girl and the Sprites spells with the Assigned Y Snes key, oh and closing the menue is done with just LB.

It sounds more complicated than it is, so in a way I do agree with @hmsong. You need to try it out a few times to get the hang of it. FYI this is also realtime casting, meaning the game does not pause if you use this option to cast spells. Have fun!  :thumbsup:

Hi, i play the turbo mod and "farmable sword orb" is activated. But how do i get the sword orb (to get permanent mana sword) ?
Edit: Just figured out that you have additional information in the patch file for each change. There was a hint how to find the orb, i will try to find it.
But still even with the description i can't make use out of the "Quick Spell Hotkey" it says binding like so: If i press hold L + hold D-Pad (what does it mean) + b it will rotate the Spell and if i press B it gets into the last menu.

Edit2: There are new areas, where you can land with Flammie? I literally searched all the world and landed almost everywhere but could not find it. Any hints?
Edit3: Seems like the problem was i deactivated day and night circle, so it was impossible to find i guess, i will search for it^^

I don't see it.  I don't know what kind of setup you did, but at least in default, I don't see it.

I played the turbo mod an it is a great way to play the game i will surely play it again that way, especially that you can change a lot of options for personal preference. Im the weird kind of person who likes to grind if some areas are too hard, so i would know if it is very complicated to change some variables like prices and stats of gear, enemies etc? I had max gold at the end it completely useless so it would make the game "artificial" longer if enemies are a lot stronger for each area. I feel the balance of the enemies is good in the first parts of the game but gets more and more easier because you level up quite fast especially magic gets too strong imo. Ranged weapons have almost the same attack power then melee weapons. The only thing i would change in the turbo mod is an rebalanced weapon/magic thing like:
weapons should get stronger with upgrades, especially melee weapons and magic shouldn't get so strong with each level. Some weapons have broken effects like balooning and the level 9 weapons have no effects at all, of course it is at the end of the game but i think level 9 weapons could have at least the higher crit effect. Thats the only change i would suggest.
For the other part: to make the game more grindy is just a personal refference. I personal would enjoy the game more if gear cost a lot more gold, monster have a lot more hp and attack each area so you grind for the next piece of armor to actually progress. Aswell as the weapon upgrades would cost a lot more but have much better stats to match the stronger enemies, as well as more immunities for earlier rings and equipment. It would change the game a lot, so i don't suppose that everyone would like it, but it would be another experiece to play the game. Much much grinding and fighting, way stronger bosses, so you have "more" playing time and you are forced to level weapons and magic equally. It would be more thankfull to reach the gold for the next, much better sword. Also im not entirely sure where it is really usefull to level up weapons and charge them, i only do that at the mana beast for the AI. It would be cool if you would also do more damage when leveling up the weapons. Some weapons have effects and if the higher level weapons have effects like level 9 sword have the best damage with increased crit but axe level 9 would have ballooning, level 9 spear would have an immunity, it would make sense to level up the weapons and swap them in certain situations because you need this effect more here and there. Like a kaizo version.

Edit: Just remebered there is already a hard mod with most of the changes i recognized, i will give it a go but it is really challenging, just got one hitted by some transformed enemy in the 2. area^^! Maybe the turbo mod could have a bit more difficulty like the hard mod, just figures out that the weapon choice is important^^
