Sonic 1 Bugfixes and Optional Act Palettes
« on: February 19, 2020, 08:39:48 pm »
Here's a project I've worked on, and have been done with for a few months now, but I haven't had an RHDN account until now. This patch aims to fix as many Sonic 1 bugs as possible and even add new features as well using Sonic Retro disassembly hacking tutorials online.

  • Dynamic Palettes Per-Act (Optional Download)
  • Fixed Demo playback (unnoticeable and speed cap ruins this anyways)
  • "PRESS START BUTTON" appears
  • Walk-Jump Removed
  • Fixed Ring Timers and added quick blink animation
  • Special Stage jumping responds to button presses like the normal jump (hold to jump higher)
  • Sonic collides with water after being damaged
  • Removed speed cap (mentioned above)
  • Sonic now has the Spin Dash from Sonic 2
  • Fixed the death boundary bug
  • Fixed the camera follow bug (barely noticeable in-game)
  • Fixed the water palette on the Title Screen to be consistent with gameplay
  • Spike Behavior fixed
  • Sonic's walking animation has been tweaked to look like the 2013 mobile version and the Sonic movie credits
  • Fixed a "remember sprite" bug where objects appear destroyed when they aren't when RAM is full (only noticeable in Debug Mode)
  • REV01 Background effects ported
  • Fixed scattered Rings underwater physics
  • Fixed some sprites where the stripe on Sonic's shoe was missing

I hope to hear feedback and possible additions/ improvements, enjoy the hack!

Looks very interesting. But I think you need to actually explain what the "Act Palettes" hack really is. Show some examples of differences between vanilla palettes and your new "Act Palettes".

There is also already another Sonic 1 bugfix hack available. You could be a bit more clear as to what the difference between that and your hack is.
