Hi!

I'm going to share some hacking some information which was discovered by Brazilian/Latino hacking community in the last years. The inspiration came from several bootleg games from the 90s based on ISS and ISSD games, like Ronaldinho Soccer, Super Desentralizado and many others. I'm still a novice and some information was lost because some rom hackers retired and didn't share any info. They usually use a Hex Editor for most of editing and Snespal for color editing. I hope you enjoy it.

Sorry for any grammatical mistakes. English is not my first language.

Players name:

Starting Address: 3B2C6
Ending Address  : 3C2D0

Use Monkey Moore to create a table for editing it in a Hex Editor. Use 00 for a blank space and 54 for a point (.). The name order respect the team order from select screen. So the first name is from Germany goalkeeper and the last one is from the last reserve from SuperStars team. Maximum name length: 8 characters.

Team description:

This is the easiest part of ISS hacking. You don't even need a table to edit it. Just open the rom with a Hex Editor and search for the text which you want to edit. The size varies for each team. Mexico and Spain have little to none space for text, for example.

Team name:

This is a bit more complicated. Each letter is split in half and there are four Hex codes associated with it. One is the letter code (either the lower of the upper half), another is about how it will be displayed (i.e displaying one half of the letter, usually 06) and other two for alignment (vertical and horizontal). Also, the team name is backwards. So the first letter is the last one.

The team name below the flag which display during the matches and in the result screen isn't text. So you need a tool to edit sprites, like the Tile Molester. I don't know the location, sorry.

Team Name Hex Address:

Germany = 4402A
Italy = 44063
Holland = 4408C
Spain = 440C5
Scotland = 43FE9
England = 441B6
France = 441EF
Wales = 43F4E
Denmark = 43F77
Sweden = 44158
Norway = 4440D
Ireland = 4417D
Belgium = 440EE
Austria = 43FB0
Swiss = 443E4
Romania = 442DB
Bulgaria = 43ED8
Russia = 44127
Argentina = 44292
Brazil = 44261
Colombia = 44220
Mexico = 44314
USA = 443BF
Nigeria = 44345
Cameroon = 4437E
S.Korea = 43F17

Upper Half/Lower Half Letter Hex Code:

The Upper half starts with D and F letters. The lower starts with C and E letters.

A = D0 - C0
B = D1 - C1
C = D2 - C2
D = D3
E = D4
F = D5
G = D6
H = D7
I = D8
J = D9
K = DA
L = DB
M = DC
N = DD
O = DE
P = DF - CF
Q = F0 - E0
R = F1
S = F2
T = F3
U = F4
V = F5
W = F6
X = F7
Y = F8
Z = F9
. = FA - EA

Note: Sweden and Norway are a special case. In order to save bits, their names work differently from the rest, displaying two sequential letters (NO and DE) using a single Hexcode. USA and Korea use less bits for using points (.) in their names.

Team Flag:

More teams share the same flag style, so if you change one this is going to affect the others. Strangely, some are coded to use different flags in select screen and in match/substitution screen despite using the same flag like other teams.

Impressive!!! Thanks for the info!!!

By the way, do you know how I can run "Futbol 97 by TEGPeru" (another ISSD hack) in bsnes/higan? This only runs in snes9x v1.51 with the Force Header option.

Thanks!!!

As a soccer fan, thank you for sharing this useful info! ISS will be my next choice for a hack.

May you`ll be interested with some information about Fifa 95
Here : http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=26495

This combined  with Salvador`s Scenario Editor will be great.

My only attempt with ISS was with a sound extractor/injector that i`ve changed with some success voices on the game.

Congrats,
Nelson
Super Monaco GP... It garnered an at-the-time unprecedented 10–10–9–9 rating from Electronic Gaming Monthly's Review and wasn`t a F Indy title.
