As much as I appreciate the effort you're putting into these, I'm just not a big fan of undubs. You seem to know a bit about the voice samples in those games and where they go, so maybe when you're done, we could work on a REdub? I can provide all the voices, and my singing isn't outright horrendous, and it would give the fans an option between Japanese voices or better English voices. Let me know what you think.
I'm on the other side of the fence, I'm personally not interested in fan dubs at all. But if you decide to go ahead with this yourself I'd be happy to give you all the information I have on this game. You can get a general idea of the process with the tools I listed on the first post.
I don't know how to convert new audio to a format the PS1 can play though, all I did was replacing already formatted audio file packages from the japanese version.

OH!
MY!
GUTSMAN!

God bless you, sir (or madam), for doing this! I would be glad to help with any testing procedures. Has anyone done any testing with a PSP? I'll gladly apply these patches TONIGHT and go through each game a.s.a.p. if it'll help ;D

If you do play it, either in PSP or wherever, please report any bugs or problems you encounter!

Sure, you could just tell me all the necessary info. I'm sure I can figure it out. I'm not that stupid. XD

Shouldn't be too hard. I probably have to make the new voice clips the exact same length as the originals, plus a few other bits, bobs, and magic touches to make it all work.

Just in time for my first marathon of the series! Thank you!

Question: Obviously, Mega Man 8 has 3 Track BIN Files. I believe Tracks 2 and 3 are the video and audio tracks while Track 1 is the game's data itself. If that's the case, is Track 2 the one that gets patched? Or is it Track 3?

Just do exactly as the instructions on the first post say: patch the first and bigger track, play/burn using the provided cue sheet (edit the bin file accordingly) and ignore the remaining smaller tracks

(One of the other tracks is the ending song, which is included in the patch and embedded in the resulting bin file. The other track is unused within the game as far a I know. The video files are always part of the main bin)

Thanks for this job, but I have a problem, the MegaMan 8 patch was fine, but the x4 v.08 patch seems to be damaged, I have downloaded it many times in different browsers but when I try to unzip the file (winrar or 7z) it keeps telling me that the file is corrupted.

:D

acediez

That's weird, I just downloaded it from the link on the first post and it decompressed just fine with 7zip. I'll reupload it as .zip when I find some time, just in case.

Well, looks like I'm not smart enough to hack a PS1 game after all. What a shame. :( The JP openings/endings still deserve English fandubs though, so I at least have something to do.

acediez

Dude, what's with all that "too stupid", "too smart" talk? These things take patience and effort to figure out, that's all.

Anyway, I recently realized I can't submit these hacks to the site with a download link for copyright reasons, so I'll make a source files pack and a guide instead. That should be useful for anyone planning to make a redub or any kind of variation. It'll have to wait until I finish my X6 project though.

Just finished 8 on my PSP. Everything sounds excellent. Loved most of the voices and got a huge kick out of Clown Man's "baaaka!" There was one glaring issue at the end, though: the Dr. Wily Prize/Dr. Light prize/credits segment was completely silent. Is that intentional? Not that it matters much.

X4 is next! Can hardly wait!
As the harbor is welcome to the sailor, so is the last line to the scribe.

acediez

Not intentional at all. Fixing that audio track was the most difficult part of the hack. On the latest version, I managed to make it work, tested it on hardware (PS2), but since it wasn't working consistently across all emulators, I'm not surprised it broke after converting it to PSP format.

I think I should make an alternate "safe" patch that leaves the japanese ending song out and simply keeps the instrumental track. I'll come back to these games after I finish my X6 project.

Anyway, I'm glad it worked ok for the rest of the game. Thank you very much for reporting back.

Yes, so I've heard, but replacing the audio clips with something entirely new, from what I can tell, seems to require actually knowing the difference between hexadecimals and ASM, which I don't. Unless I'm willing to spend a few months studying how hex works, there isn't much I can really do. But, since you're (sorta-kinda-but-not-really) chewing me out, I guess I'll at least put a little more effort into this. Maybe I'll come out this having learned something.

MajinKaan

What about Mega Man X5? Could you also restore the Japanese ending and put in the missing voice clips from the Japanese version? You would also need to rename the Mavericks back to their original names to make the voice announcements fit.

Meh99

Hey, I'm having trouble patching the name (I'm a noob at doing lol) could someone give me a step-by-step tutorial on how to patch this onto a bin MMX4 file or possibly send me a link to a patched rom?

About two weeks late, but hexadecimal is just 0 through 9, continuing with ABCDEF. 16 possible options for each "place" in a value. The number 57005, amusingly enough, is DEAD in hexadecimal. We would use hexadecimal to count, instead of decimal, if we had eight fingers on each hand. Don't leap headfirst into advanced stuff. Start with basic things to become familiar with it. People frequently set themselves up for failure by aiming for the moon the first time they pick up a bow. Nothing wrong with starting from elementary studies. The stronger your foundation, the more stable a structure you can place upon it. This works in architecture, martial arts, drawing, or any other skill more advanced than breathing.

Any plans for an undub of the saturn version of Megaman 8? It is the superior version.

I was having trouble getting this to run on the Vita through Adrenaline and was wondering if I could get some assistance.
