Kana search with Windhex
« on: April 11, 2018, 03:24:41 am »
My problem is when searching Kana (Ctr+K) in Windhex, the describtion text hides the Kana so I can't see where to click biginning letters like あ、い、う、ア...

Strangely, I tried all Windhex version and the results are the same. I remember this didn't occur when I used it several years ago. Anyone know how to deal with this?

I know this isn't going to be helpful, but I never got Windhex to search for ANYTHING, it seems completely broken in that regard. I just use another hex editor like HxD to do the searching for particular bytes, then use WH32EX to look at what's there.

I don't know why the search function is gimped (and not just for kana) but I just deal with it. It's not such a big deal for me.

Can't you just copy the text to search for over from jwpce, or whatever that new fork of it is.

I think the problem might be your OS.
It has worked fine for me for years (Windows up to 8.1).

I expect there's some sort of compatibility option that might make the app behave, but I have no idea exactly what that might be.  If all else fails, you can try smacking it around with Resource Hacker.

Neat, I hadn't heard of that.
