One thing I did notice, is that I was fighting Hans Grosse in like the 3rd level, is that normal?

For the Second Encounter family (SNES - Jaguar - Mac - 3DO - Amiga - PC98), that is normal = Mission 1 has only 3 floors, with Hans.

Quote
Also, another thing that threw me off a bit, was that Level 1 right after starting plays "Funk You" instead of "Get Them Before They Get You". Is that normal too?

DOS: Get Them Before They Get You, Searching for the Enemy, March to War
SNES: Funk You, Get Them Before They Get You, Ultimate Challenge
Jaguar: Get Them Before They Get You, POW, Ultimate Challenge
Mac / 3DO: Custom tracks. Didn't want to pay Bobby Prince royalty rights to use music, so MacPlay / Interplay made their own

So iD didn't like the SNES arrangement and moved things around for Jaguar.

Funny thing is that R. Prince didn't keep the original Roland MIDIs, which makes the Adlib soundtrack the OST (which has some bum notes). He did recreate several tracks after release:

Wondering About My Loved Ones
Get Them Before They Get You
Searching For the Enemy
The March to War
Enemy Around the Corner
Zero Hour
The Tower
Funkie Colonel Bill
Evil Incarnate
Ultimate Challenge

but they sound kinda different from DOS ones. Atari Jaguar MIDI tracks imitate Roland to a degree. I haven't compared the different soundtracks much though.

DOS MIDI = https://github.com/ericvids/wolfmidi/releases/
SNS MIDI = ...
Jag MIDI = http://www.bwass.org/bucket/jag_music.7z
Dm2 MIDI = http://www.bwass.org/bucket/wolf3d - doom2 music.7z
WTV MIDI = http://www.bwass.org/bucket/wolf3d - prince music.7z

BTW, what were the PAR times used for Redux / Boss modes (before rounding)? Is a pistol reset required? Because it's easy to stack up 299 bullets or 99 missiles / flames and flatten many of those times. Or just run by everyone on very easy mode.

And for those still playing the DOS versions (non-ecwolf), get this (1.48 = 30th anniversary, Liberation Day in Netherlands)

Is somebody here who can record some cool gameplay of the hack and post it on youtube or so?
Also we our toolkit it is very easy to swap the music tracks.
I think since it is in the JAG version changed I go with the JAG order.

I think these are vanilla bugs

- Stand next to an open door and lure an enemy into the doorway. If you time it well, you can trap enemies and bosses just before the door normally closes. They will get caught trying to leave but you will keep blocking their movement. Easy no-hit kill. Testing with dogs is easiest.

- Sometimes when guards walk or die around ceiling lights, you don't see their feet or blood stains. It's like ceiling texture is in front and obscures the enemy behind it. When they walk in front, then it's okay.

Balance
- 5-8 is way too easy with full missile cache at start. Satan is a joke to kill with that many missiles around the floor.

Annoyance
- Can't speedup title fading or Spear ending with START press

"AARDWOLF" i found an easter egg in redux mode in 2-3 :D

Matheus123

These last few times I've been restoring the faces of B.J blazkowicz from the DOS version and some faces from the Atari Jaguar version, and I've also been experimenting with the color palette of the SNES version of Wolfenstein in a version closer to the color palette of DOS

To celebrate this occasion we are releasing the beta version of our
SNES Wolfenstein 3D Uncut/Redux Hack today. This is one of the most extensive SNES Rom hacks
ever made and we are proud to share it with you now.
Please note that this is still a WIP beta!
Some things are not final yet and will be updated as soon as possible.
Also if you encounter any bugs please let us know here.
We won't take feature request or changes at this time.
We will take care about game bugs and game balancing (Redux/BossRush) only.

Now it is time for the patch:
https://we.tl/t-IqJUutCqmS
Unpack  the IPS file. Use LIPS and apply the patch to the US NTSC version of Wolfenstein3D.
Use the ROM from the latest No-Intro rom set. Do not ask for the ROM here!
You need to find it on you own!

The full MSU-1 Pack can be found here:
https://we.tl/t-XiiC5t6V5Y
To use MSU-1, place the ROM inside the MSU Pack folder and launch it.

Have fun!

The links have expired, is it possible to have a re-upload?

@Matheus123, any progress with this one? I've been playing the beta for months now and I can only restrain the edgy 14 year old inside of me who was wholly dissapointed with The Big N's censorship back in 1994... Or if there's anything I can help with in the graphics dept or play testing... I'm more than willing to lend a hand.
Yo! I be gettin' them fat stacks shootin smack, makin rom hacks and sniffin butt-cracks... Boy,  I know this rhyme is whack, and my use of alliteration isn't exactly exhilarating, but it sure beats being depressed and on medicine, dressed like a furry and beating my meat to venison.

Well, I'm doing extra work making sprites, I'll post the sprites here soon...

Creature667

So you're not just ripping the assets from the DOS version and Jaguar port? I used to mod the sh*t out of Wolf3d as well as Doom back in the day so I'm already familiar with how the assets work and how to rip them on those... But from playing the beta it seemed like almost all the spritework was done. I figured some of the SNES voice samples had to go. Namely the Stop, Halt and Cominforya in all their pitch shifted glory.

In all seriousness though, this hack is amazing and I can't wait for the finished product. Everyone who put in work on this did a brilliant job. This and Mortal Kombat Arcade Edition alone were what brought me back to Romhacking. :D

Just had some fun playing the latest WIP build. So awesome to hear the German phrases coming from enemies though it was mixed with some English still in there. Don't know if that was intentional. Graphics for being on SNES look great though. The game crashed on level 2-2 when I shot a rocket at an enemy and unintentionally died.

Asaki

Wow, haven't checked on this in a while, just having the full-res 64x64 wall graphics is a HUGE improvement on this game.

Too bad they couldn't have released the game that way back in the day, but it was still a pretty mind-blowing experience back then for us console kids.

Haven't tested on real hardware yet, and this is probably known already, but in ZSNES, the game freezes every time I go to the automap.

Asaki

Played this a bit yesterday, but had to stop as it was starting to make me motion sick =(
Not sure I agree with all of the changes made, but still pretty cool.

Shame nobody's gotten the Noah3D source to compile yet.

This material was in the Mac version stuff so it is original and fits much better with the comic theme.
The original GFX has a blue BG but the contrast is better with red, so it became red.
Quote from: Shadowhazard on April 07, 2018, 04:17:53 AMThe Mac version has only the three basic movements eye left, right and middle. Also the mac version has the animation when BJ gets hurt hard and the ZombieBJ.

Where did you guys find these? I have the US "full, 90-level version" and I don't see them anywhere. At least not with WolfEdit, I only poked around with ResEdit a little bit.
Are they only in the shareware version or something?

Quote from: Fire-WSP on April 18, 2018, 05:56:32 PMThe textures in this file are mostly based upon the PC version but I remade a few snes exclusive textures in 64x64.
The outside Sky and Night for example. They are still WIP.

Some interesting choices you've made there...I was wondering where those textures came from, since even some of the straight PC->SNES ones have unique changes to them.

Quote from: me_wolf on February 16, 2022, 10:34:58 PMWill you port Jaguar maps, like enemy spawn behavior?

Do the enemies spawn differently in the Jaguar version? I never noticed any difference just from playing the game.

Shadowhazard did the additional BJ Faces based upon the DOS Version Faces.
The SNES version should have one of the most complete HUD faces for BJ now.
I in fact ended up going over every texture and adapted them to the SNES Palette.
In some cases I also made a few changes based upon my 32x32 pixel optimized textures.
It was important for me to maintain and maybe improve the SNES look of the game.
Also important was that the SNES Version has a few unique changes.
The Jag Version has a few minor level changes. we talk about a few different or additional items and here and there a few more enemies.

I dont know if it is a bug, but yesterday i played the boss rush mode and went back to the health after defeating second boss and the door was closed and i couldnt go to the third boss.

I've made a 3D0 music MSU-1 pack for this amazing hack
