NES Boy

I caught the use of "Hitlers" in place of "Hitler's" in the Mission Four briefing.

By the way, just for fun, I'd like to see a "Wolfstone" version of this a la The New Colossus.

nosynose

Here's what I deem to be incorrect:

Mission 2:
and then seek out -> then seek out (remove 'and')
The Kommandant -> The Commandant
Trans? Grobe (weird name)
and destroying -> and then destroying (add 'then')

Mission 3:
Nazi Soldiers - Nazi soldier

Mission 4:
Nazi War Machine -> Nazi war machine
In East Prussia is -> In East Prussia there is (add 'there')
all its plans -> all its plans. (add period)
Nazi Menace -> Nazi menace
free World -> free world

Mission 5:
Assault -> assault

Mission 6:
the World -> the world
German Castle -> German castle

Mission 7:
Willian J. Blaskowicz -> William J. Blazkowicz

amaturehr

I guess I didn't read as closely as I thought.  Going over the post history, I see that @SCD provided screens of the Jag. version for the uncensored text.  Just for completeness I typed out the original SNES text as well as the DOS text (at the end of this message), in the event it would make since to merge some of the text from these two versions.  Possibly for the final victory screen as it wasn't in the SNES or Jag it seems.  In cases of proper grammar or not, I figured it would be most deseriable to look to what the original Jag/SNES or DOS versions show.

So to follow up on @nosynose good post:

Mission 2:
and then seek out -> then seek out (remove 'and') <--- AGREE, especially as original SNES read as "You must seek him out..."
The Kommandant -> The Commandant  <--- Original Jag version says Kommandant
Trans? Grobe (weird name) <--- Original SNES reads as "The Head of the Elite Guard there is Trans Grosse..."
and destroying -> and then destroying (add 'then') <--- Neutral, could go either way.

Mission 3:
Nazi Soldiers - Nazi soldier <--- Original snes reads "...to make fallen soldiers rise and fight again...".  The Jag version has all text capitalized.

Mission 4:
Nazi War Machine -> Nazi war machine <--- AGREE, original DOS says "...even as the Nazi war machine falls to its knees..."
In East Prussia is -> In East Prussia there is (add 'there') <--- No comment
all its plans -> all its plans. (add period) <--- AGREE.
Nazi Menace -> Nazi menace <--- Neutral
free World -> free world <--- AGREE.

Mission 5:
Assault -> assault <--- AGREE

Mission 6:
the World -> the world <--- AGREE
German Castle -> German castle <--- AGREE

Mission 7:
Willian J. Blaskowicz -> William J. Blazkowicz <--- AGREE

SNES

(mission 1):

Blazkowicz, you've served the Republic well.  You're our top operative, a one-man strike team.  However, infiltrating the Master State will not be easy.  Staatmeister and his forces are determined to rule the world.

Your first task: find and eliminate Hans Grosse, Staatmeister's most ruthless enforcer.  He marshals the forces from a castle outside Dresden.  You will have to wade through his crack forces to reach him.  Good luck.

(mission 2):

You never cease to amaze me, B.J. You have defeated the horrible enforcer Hans.  I'd congratulate you, but the Master State does not rest, so neither can we.  We don't have that luxury.

Their scientists are building weapons... chemical weapons.  Yes, in direct violation of the Convention.  You must go to Castle Erlangren, find and neutralize the source.

The Head of the Elite Guard there is Trans Grosse.  You must terminate him.  We're counting on you.

(mission 3):

Your last mission was a glowing success.  Your next assignment will be nearly impossible to believe, much less complete.

The insane Doctor Schabbs is...well, reports have it that he is using what he calls a "Corpsokinetic Animation Serum" to make fallen soldiers rise and fight again.  You must rid the world of these abominations and stop Schabbs' evil work.

(mission 4):

You've hit them hard, but their plans are already in motion.  Up in the mountains is a fortress where the weapons are stockpiled, and the war room lies.

Guarding the plans is the hideous masterpiece of Doctor Schabbs: the Ubermutant.  It is an abomination, and lives to protect the interests of the Master State.  If you get the plans, your country will owe you a great debt.

(mission 5):

The plans, as you are aware, detail their first attack strategem, which is already underway.  You must travel to Castle Heidenheim and face their leader.  He is known as the Death Knight.

It won't be easy.  That's why we're sending you.

(mission 6):

After the blows we have dealt to his plans, Staatmeister wages desperate, brutal war upon the Republic.  He is attacking civilian targets.  He must be stopped.

He has fallen back to his last stand, in the legendary Master State keep known as Wolfenstein.  You must seek him out and stop the destruction.  Terminate Staatmeister now.  Millions of lives lie in the balance.  Good luck, William.

Will you be changing enemy hp per difficulty levels?

kalita-kan

Fire-WSP: your PM inbox is full. Mine is getting that way too. :)

Vague talk:
Just a note that I mostly understand the format and might be able to save you time by using what we have. Big if though, need to try.

Fire-WSP

Fire-WSP: your PM inbox is full. <<< fixed  ;D

me_wolf

Will you port fixes to Noah's Ark?
Will there be a modding toolkit?
Will you port Jaguar maps, like enemy spawn behavior?

Fire-WSP

I am sorry, I am not really interested doing anything on NoahsArk.
What Kalita_kan will do is fully up to him.
As a matter of fact we have all Noah3D Maps working in Wolfenstein3D. But the Noah Maps are boring and stupid big.
Some crash. Not sure if we will do anything with that.
A tool kit is fully up to Kalita_kan. It is all his code. No code from the old hack version is used.
Porting stuff from other versions is never a easy task. You can not just copy and paste code.
You have to research a lot of stuff. Some can be replicated, some not. Spawning in general is no easy thing to hack.

kalita-kan

Up to me = at my whim then. Her pleasure. So be nice and you get a less than decent chance. Hahaha!

Not joking aside, I worked from Noah's open source and it still was a massive pain! A lot of the bug fixes people may not be interested in N3D (most are not impactful). Source code, yes. My tools = yes. Assets, trademarks = no.

Spent too much time on this to not share something, but not enough to stir the nest. A clever person will be able to re-build the assets from a laundry list and final product. Or just take Noah's assets and insert back into Wolf.

I haven't seen anyone port the Jaguar spawning behavior so I imagine they changed the compression and map editor. Boo!

me_wolf

Will you unlock 60fps?
Support CPU overclock?
Give tools to extract assets?
Which map editor to use?
Add back DOS features? Death Cam? Patrols? Guard long-distance fire? More death shouts?
Mac / Jaguar voices?
Is there MSU OST we can add? Also support SNES OST? More sfx voice channels?
Expanded options?
Easter eggs?

Sorry. I know. Long list. Want to prepare. :p

It's okay if you say no to all. I want SNES to be unique and not straight watered down dumb port.

Fire-WSP

I doubt 60fps would be possible on a under 4Mhz machine.
Tools to extract are already out there. You can extract everything from any W3D or Noah3D rom.
Ted5 is needed to edit maps.

This hack wont be the typical hack with just a few changes.
The engine got numerous fixes like the Door/Corner shooting bug and much more.
Also many DOS features have already be ported back such as the DeathCam.
https://streamable.com/czxofq
MSU was also added (not using the available msu hacks, all new), a OST is in the works but we probably need help.
There is no way on the SNES to "hack in" more SFX channels.
What options do you look for?
Eastereggs? yeah try find them :D

kalita-kan

> Will you unlock 60fps? Support CPU overclock?

Emulator overclocks work fine on this game. Constant steady 15 fps.

I doubt 60 fps is possible. Mode 7 uploads eat up so much time, would leave no time for face pain frame changes.

Did try 30 fps. It goes z-o-ooooo-m. Faster than in-game running button. It would require completely re-timing engine.

I imagine you're thinking of DOS-sized 64x64 wall textures?

> Give tools to extract assets?

I'll compile a list later.

> Which map editor to use?

TED5 is open-source now. And the SNES / Jaguar map format is not PC friendly. Some icon row adjustments are needed.

> Add back DOS features? Death Cam? Patrols? Guard long-distance fire? More death shouts?

Think of it as SNES-enstein. Some hybrid of all ports so don't expect anything new or creative. Still have to work within SNES limits (*64k spc*). Maps are kinda small for guard patrols, and that isn't simple to just add back in. It's not like I can hack the C code directly. I'm nearly fed up with the asm part.

If you mean the DOS guards are likely to shoot from way farther out, well. I got burned playing DOS incarnate when treating it like SNES difficulty. That feature would be increasing the SNES difficulty though.

> Is there MSU OST we can add? Also support SNES OST? More sfx voice channels?

I think the SNES MIDIs are in the ROM so anyone can convert them into MSU soundtrack, if that's your style.

If MSU is used, you will increase 2 -> 7 for sfx channels. It helps a lot with voice cutoff problems.

> Options. Easter eggs

Go read the source code when it comes out. :p

Fire-WSP

It is nice to finally have that code in a state that it can be compiled.
But there is still a big difference between Wolf3D and Noah3D expecialy now with the numerous changes and fixes kalita-kan did.
Btw, we are near a first release but there is still some work to do.
In that regard, we are looking for somebody who has a fully working Roland SC-55 MIDI Setup available
If you have such a system and be willing to help us out, please let us know ASAP :)

You can try contacting Brandon Blume, he made SC-55 music packs for a bunch of old FPS games, he might be able to help you on that.

Here's his website, his email address is on the bottom of the front page: https://sc55.duke4.net/

Fire-WSP

Just checked out his site. very cool. That could be our guy. Any chance you could contact him? I am quite busy right now with the project.

SCD

Sure, I can contact him, what do you want me to tell him?

Fire-WSP

Well, we would need the DOS Wolfenstein 3D Soundtrack played and recorded with a Roland SC-55 Setup to have it as correct as possible. The available SC-55 Soundfonts are not fully correct so some stuff sounds different. We are looking for the 100% correct music. We need it in CD quality Wav.

Alright, I sent him a message and he replied back to me and told me that he created a account on here, so he will be appearing in this thread soon.
