Nice!
Thanks for the detailed report on what the patch does exactly, minucce.
It's appreciated :)

The 2nd cave you mention, is that one added too by the "Secret.ips" patch? Or is it something else?
I'll include your report for it in the OP as a spoiler tag, for those interested.

The 2nd secret is the same location where you rescue the little boy when properly transitioning to Maze Island from East Hyrule. If you pick up that Water Of Life, the game will think that you rescued the boy thus allowing you to get the Reflect spell without you actually saving the boy.

Normally there's no way to access that 2nd secret, without using a cheat code?? It only seems to work in original and redux (when not using secret.ips)

Correct. You're not supposed to be able to go there, but if you cheat and do go there, it's a nice shortcut for getting the Reflect spell sooner.

You don't have to cheat to get to the duped Maze Island if you're playing a randomized run & activated the option to walk on ANY water tile with the boots. You just go down to death mountain & once you're in contact with it's east coast, just keep walking east to find the island.

That's assuming if this patch is compatible with the Z2 Randomizer.

Why does the overworld in Zelda 2 Redux keep flickering from normal to a black screen. only does this in the overworld. im using virtualNES for 3DS. Thanks

Suggestion for an optional patch:

It's just a personal opinion, but I don't like the FDS battle music as much as the NES version, and I'd prefer to have the NES version play in all overworld battles. So perhaps make two optional patches for the battle music. One in which the NES battle music plays in all overworld battles no matter where you are in the world, and another for the FDS version for those that like this song. People who like both songs can just ignore these patches and play the romhack as normal.

I'll consider this for next week. Shouldn't be hard to do.

Outside of that, a while ago I tried doing some debugging to see if the experience gained could be saved to SRAM per-savefile, so each save slot saved the Exp. and you didn't start from 0000 each time.

I did manage to make the game save the Exp, but weirdly enough, it seems the Exp saved is stored for all 3 save slots, not just one.
I found this really weird, it seems the Exp needs to be cleared after death or reset, or else the previous Exp amount will get loaded into whatever saveslot you load next.

I didn't manage to find anything else, as that's where I stopped, but certainly making the game save the Exp per each individual slot would be something of interest, even if it's just a curiosity of mine.

hello! big fan of this hack! i've been trying a few of the optional patches (namely restart same screen and keep exp after death) but a lot of the optional patches seem to not be working! i didn't wanna write a review saying this since i still think people should check out the hack, so i thought i'd post it here on this forum.

That's weird. All of the optional patches should be working.
Are you sure you're using the correct base ROM?
It should be PRG0 and not PRG1.

ShadowOne333 - Did you wrap up work with Zelda 2 Redux, or are you looking to add a little more?

Any chance you could add Zynk Orhyde's "Play As Zelda" Mod as an optional patch for Redux I & II?

THIS! Sounds like a great idea!!

ifightdragons

A Redux of the Oracle games would be absolutely fantastic. Although I'd understand if it would be a lot to take on.

ShadowOne333

Link's Awakening Redux is already an existing project:
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4672/

It also has a WIP disassembly so it eventually will be open source (based on ZLADX's disassembly):
https://github.com/ShadowOne333/Links-Awakening-Redux
(It's WIP since the VWF hack is being rewritten by toruzz himself so it works properly with v1.2 ROMs of LADX)

As for the Oracle games, I already have some preliminary work on such a project:
https://github.com/ShadowOne333/Oracles-Redux
This is based on the Oracles disassembly by Drenn, and it currently has both the Force GBA and Force GBC palettes in GBA mode hacks implemented into it.

However, I haven't done any other work on the Oracle project since I have no clue where to start or what would be a possible good solution to the linked stuff between them.

I made a topic about this a long time ago here:
https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=33200

If people are interested, talk about Oracles Redux could be handled there, just so we don't clutter the Zelda 2 thread with other projects.

Memorex

I've been following this project with keen interest, thanks for all the work that has gone into it

I'd like to ask if a patch to keep the NES battle theme is still on the to-do list?
