In other words, the bulk of both redux hacks are already completed and can be played and enjoyed right now and the projects are 90-95% done. No reason to not use these hacks right now, it's basically good to go with more touches incoming down the line. I've beaten both of these hacks and they do make for a more enjoyable experience. With the amount of customization these hacks allow for, it means you can play the game in whichever way you prefer and I love these hacks for that. Improvement hacks for Zelda 1 and 2 were much needed and we finally have a proper one with more features than ever. Thanks to ShadowOne and other contribubutors for the awesome work.

Optional patches has "New GFX" but no description in main post; I'm guessing it's safe to use with Revility Edition Sprites?

New GFX uses graphics from the Rev Edition Sprites with a few differences.

Ah sorry.
I forgot to add a description for that one in here.
I only added it to the ReadMe file for the project, but not in the OP.

It's added now.

Is is possible to widen the text boxes like Castlevania 2 project?

Finally there was time to finish the Zelda II Redux with the new gfx and there was no problem with the exception of one, when I lift the sword upwards these two dots appear in the image:

I've fixed it here and please fix it in the next update. (And sorry for the horrible palette, I was experimenting with RGB mode on Mesen. )

Took some time today to fix that issue with DarthVaderX mentioned with the New GFX optional patch.
That optional patch should now be bug free. :)

Would it be possible to "de-twang" the music to have smoother notes like on the FDS? That would be a nice optional patch.

i wish we would get better than nes graphics and updated sounds effects and music for this and zelda 1.

It exists, it's called A Link to the Past.  ;)

He means remakes of the first two Zelda games. I'd like that too. What would really be cool is a top-down remake of Zelda 2. Like the 3D remake of Link Awakening but with the Zelda 2 story line.

ShadowOne333

Would you guys consider the current state of Zelda 2 Redux to be at a good stable point to make an initial release?
I've been thinking about it, I could create the Hack Page and just leave a mention of the only thing left to do.

Please, let me know what do you guys think about it.

ifightdragons

Absolutely.

The only thing left is the file select screen, which will be a nice update when ready.
Otherwise, it's already the optimal way to experience Zelda II.

By the way, do you know if DarkSamus993 is still working on this, and if so, is he making any progress?

darthvaderx

If you think that the last feature you plan for this hack will take a long time to come out then this is an ideal time to launch it officially.

that's exactly what i meant :)

Agreed, if the menu upgrade is the only thing left to do, then tag it and bag it, dude.

Hey ShadowOne. Do you have individual patches for each of your updates?

It's live, guys!

Talked to DarkSamus and he agreed on making the release despite the missing stuff.
I have also just added the missing credits, so it should now be what we had here.

Let me know if you guys want me to add the "TODO" thing that remains on the release page for reference.

You mean for the main Redux patch?
No, I didn't do nor have source code for that, unfortunately.
I do have the optional patches reverse engineered, if that helps, but the main source for Redux I don't have it, since that's before I started doing my projects as open source and with proper compilers.

DarkSamus did RE'd it all, but I really don't want to bother him with it.

Vanya

A TODO list would be good. It's good to have that reminder when I'm looking at patch pages.

Sent the change to add the TO-DO entry at the end of the hack's description.
