I tried updating the other evening to 1.2.2 and then 1.2.3 but so much went wrong I was left with a broken setup. After that I spent time reverting to 1.1.0 because I knew it would be stable.

Tried again this morning to update and less went wrong so I'm now on 1.2.4. Woo!

Also

Libble Rabble (Japan) = OK, 0000

Crimson Echoes = save game? Not playing that far unless it's really easy to get to.

Options menu, credits screen and overscan after suspending and resuming the game looks fine now, I think this will be the definitive patch.

It should be no problem to get to, maybe a bit time consuming though.

After checking all of the menu options and various other things, I wanted to test out the battles.
I thought I would have to go through all of the beginning exposition in order to begin a battle, since you can't enter Guardia Forest like in the original.

So I went to Guardia Castle, had the meeting with the Porrean agents, chased the one that runs away. He drops the Time Egg, it explodes and creates a Gate, which takes you to Robo/Belthasar.

I was not able to get to a battle unfortunately.

You can walk south of the castle and enter some forest. Run around and you'll find a roly. Which ko'd me with ~10HP on first strike.

I'll play the intro. Sounds like no useful saves possible since all cutscene stuff.

Tales of Phantasia (0000 + 03, Dejap)

7MB boot test. If not working, this might be too hard to do (no space). There's so much custom remapping needed it's crazy-ish.

After posting my last comment, I went and tested Crimson Echoes again.
Yup, just found the enemies in Fiona's Forest. :banghead:

Battles appear to be working correctly!
Everything appears to be working perfectly fine, the only issue appears to be hanging at a black screen after taking the Gate to Robo and Belthasar.

Crimson Echoes (0000 + 03)
https://www.sendspace.com/file/g9pj8a

Fix side-effect of converting exhirom to exlorom.
400000-407fff = 818000-81ffff
408000-40ffff = 808000-80ffff

Got through first few battles okay. Not familiar with techniques or special attacks.

exhirom conversions:
DQ3 works so well because hacker made everything nice and tidy. Usually doesn't cross 8000 bank boundary. When it happens, usually a 1 byte read where I can fix it.

Crimson Echoes is harder because used lots more ex-banks and custom asm code. Waiting for next crash to happen.

Both games would need full playthrough but at least are in nursing care now.

Tales of Phantasia = idk. Really don't know. So don't keep private ask about this. It's a monster translation hack on top of vanilla nuttiness.

Daikaijuu Monogatari II = 5MB. But has a RTC chip. Even if a translation is in progress, not committed.

Momotarou Dentetsu Happy (Japan)
Super Power League 4 (Japan)
Tengai Makyou Zero (Japan)

These 3 use spc7110. Can they convert to exlorom sdd1? Using DarkAkuma's Star Ocean research, maybe. Still has rtc and other features. So maybe not.

Don't private bug me about these either.

Which translation should I be using for tales_0a.bps?
Uppercase or lowercase, interleaved or non-interleaved?
Voice dubbing?

crimson1b.bps + 0000 + 03 = Success!... So far!
Everything that I have played so far has been working correctly.

I was able to proceed past the first Time Gate, I also was able to complete Magus' introduction sequence as well.
After Magus' sequence, it properly switched back to Chrono.

All battles that I encountered along the way were working properly.

So far, everything is looking to be working correctly!

I'm wondering though, would it be better to use Chrono Trigger's Preset ID of 110B?
I did NOT experience any sound issues though, so I think it might be perfectly fine with 0000.

tales_0a.bps + 0000 + 03 = It boot!
The game actually booted! Awesome job Sluffy!

It only displayed the opening quote, as well as the music, but then hung at a black screen after that.
The music was still playing though.

It's still a great start! Absolutely amazing Sluffy!

Earthworm Jim 2 (USA) (????)
https://www.sendspace.com/file/0d3r3a

Try slowing down apu timer, ala Terminator.

Given how Canoe acts with other things, surprised it allows 7MB. Okay then. Will use base dejap patch and proceed. Get ready for lots of problems though! No joking when this game needs testing - almost couldn't get it to work at 7 with zany tricks in action. And that's just the boot part. :o

Note that Canoe sdd1 seems to crash exactly like bsnes+ so that'd be good sandbox for exhirom saves and tests.

Don't know if 110b twerks the CT:CE rom. ^^

Yeah, I'm not too big of a fan of the voice dubbing. It's amazing work for being fan-created, but, not to be rude or anything like that, it reminds me a lot of Chaos Wars for the PlayStation 2, if anyone has ever heard of that game before. ;D

With that being said, whichever translation you decide to work with Sluffy, it's totally fine with me.
It's really not that big of a deal.

EDIT:

jim2_1.ips + 0000 = No change unfortunately.
Various sound effects still do not play.

In Earthworm Jim 2 also check the freeze in level 2, maybe the patch is for that and not for the sounds...

Oh sorry, I should have mentioned that as well.
I tested this as well, still freezes during level 2.

Winter Gold, I started incorporating the B button for hills/jumps. I really started decreasing my times for Downhill.
Even messing up a lot of the B button jumps, I still was able to get a time of 1:40.32.
If I was a god at this game, I can easily see getting a time of 1:38.
I just got 1'40"62 there's definitely room for improvement. I now also think I could get 1'38" but the jury is still out on 1'35"

Wouldn't be better to try to get vanilla Tales of Phantasia working first?
If you want to keep working with the translated one, would it be possible for you to include the translation already in the patch? That way we'll reduce the risk of people using the wrong translation patch when testing.
