Hi there, I am new here.
I posted this on r/miniSNESmods, and this board got mentioned.
I am currently playing "Doraemon nobita to yousei no kuni"(Doraemon and the land of the fairies?!)(SHVC-DR) and I have found some emulation errors when running it with Canoe.

There are sometimes lines of text missing. It is starting early on (didn´t see it at first, because I skipped the opening :) ), but I first noticed it when there was a missing option to answer during one of the dialogues. It seems as if the four lines of text don´t fit the box, or something.
Here are pictures from the beginning of the game (one of Canoe and one of Retroarch/SNES9x):
https://imgur.com/a/HkbZ2Nu

Is there any way to fix something like this in Canoe?

I played Doraemon 4 roo and haven´t seen any error so far, but it is somewhat different from Doraemon 1-3), I also ordered Doraemon 2 and 3, maybe I am able to test them soon.

Edit: So I tried Doraemon (1) with SNES9X and BSNES on the Mini, SNES9X (16) has pretty hefty slowdowns and sound crackling, SNES9x (10) some sound issues and sound crackling, BSNES runs at, I don´t know, half the framerate?! Maybe I will try SNES9x(05) later, but it seems as if it isn´t possible to get it running properly.

Thanks for your report ! : I tested the game and I can confirm you're right : same "missing text" issue with canoe. I tried some quick "magic" preset ID like 6810, but no change here. I suppose this type of issue should be not too hardly to be fixed, hopefully someone could do this one day.

However, concerning retroarch, I tested the game with absolutely none issues at all. But, I used (in my opinion) the most reliable and simple version of hakchi + retroarch that was never made for the SNESC and for SNES games experience : the old 2.21f version + retroarch 1.0 (and snes9x2010 core) : works just fine

Thanks for your reply. SNES9x10 runs almost fine for me, but there is one pretty demanding?! level (the one in the woods with the skeletons: first (when starting game) talk to the kid to the right, go to the sandpit, obtain the beam, go north to the broken bridge and repair it, talk to the kid (I think it was the kid or the sign in front of the wood) up further north and go right in the woods, the level straight ahead).
Thats where i have sound issues (crackling) when running SNES9x.
Canoe is struggling too, (sadly I can´t test it on the original hardware, because I lack a proper TV :(, but I think it would be the same), especially while the sounds of the skeletons are audible and you shoot (you aren´t able to hear the sound of some shots).

Haven´t played further on SNES9x10 yet, beacuse I am pretty ill at the moment, but I will play through it, maybe next week.
But I can imagine that there will be some issues when obtaining the weapon with the projectiles which follow the enemies (can´t remember the name). There were several slowdowns because of it last time I finished it with Canoe (But I think thats just normal).

Tested more, following your directions, and yes, in the wood with skeletons there were some annoying sound distortions at some parts with snes9x10 ^^'.

Retested it with canoe, and just noticed a tiny one at the end of that level (the switch to the place where is the final chest : sound issues). But, this minor issue was easily solved by add" -no-lowlatency" at the end of the command line of the game in hakchi. So, I think the gameplay should be "perfect" with this correction (so it would seem better than it is with a retroarch core). And I don't think the decline of the sound of shots (didn't noticed a total disappear of this sound) when a skeleton is around should be abnormal. Of course, not to mention the lack of japanese sentences. But for players who don't understand japanese language or who don't care about the script and just want to enjoy playing, I suppose it's not really so annoying.

matt!

Just wanted to say hi to sluffy, just in case he is reading this thread.

it is winter once again and we played Winter Gold for our annual winter themed games night. Every time I play this game I think of the amazing work sluffy did in this thread and the unfair treatment he received IRL. All power to you sluffy! I hope you are well.

Hello,

I tested more precisely the game you mentioned, (cause I had already played some without any issues on my SNESC) :

- DBZ hyper dimension works just fine for me (with or without the english translation) : absolutely no issues encountered with sluffy's patch

- Power rangers, the fighting edition : exactly the same: it works like a charm for me (with patched rom used)

- Doom : I tested on canoe and on Higan (PC) and I honestly don't see noticeable (accurancy) differences between these 2 versions : same very minor slowdown (with slight music distorsion) at some rare spots. I didn't noticed special lag on canoe, nothing uncomfortable. But maybe I'm wrong here, I am not used to this game.

For EarthwormJim2, No, we tested a lot of different presetID to solve these major sound issues but no improvement at all. The problem is much more complex and sluffy's quit the scene before finding any solution. (More than that the game freezes at the begining of level 2)

However, for Primal Rage, it's a good catch here, because nobody had never reported any issues on this game (considering the compatibility sheet). And Yes, you're right, a bunch of various sounds are missing (the more noticeable are the "RAGE" voice at the beginning of a battle or the victory yell of the victory character at the end of a battle). Preset ID EF10 or EC10 have no effect to correct that.

For the games that don't work with you, be sure to use correct roms from the no-intro set and don't use SFROM Tool in a first time : patch them manually with lunar ips (with the patch into the compatibility sheet) and only then, put them in hakchi. then you can also add a translation patch (for example in DBZ hyper dimension, that don't require header rom)

P.S : I didn't tested Bomberman4 translated; maybe later.
Hi!

- Power rangers, the fighting edition
I had the same problem. I used Lunar ips, applied the patch and now the game freezes at versus screen.
I also patched Top Gear 2, and now I get black screen at start, very odd.

The cause is rom version? There is a way to check if my roms are NoIntro?
Thx.

Nevermind. I found proper NoIntro roms on both cases and now the patches worked charm.

I'll share the transparency problem I found on Goof Troop both USA and JAP version.
This is how Canoe shows:

And this is how should it be:

Is it possible to modify the ROM for the Satelleview game Special Tee Shot [filename: "BS Special Tee Shot (J).smc", headerless, CRC: 841C8EB9] to work on Canoe like what has been done for "Golf Daisuki!: O.B. Club"?

Based on reading a bunch of things I think that monkeying around with some of the SNES header (not the SMC header) might do the trick, but I would have no idea how to actually do that successfully.  On the plus side, the game is already 100% in English to begin with, so no game translation would be needed.

Have you tried to change the preset ID (ctrl + alt + e in hakchi) of Goof Troop from 0000 to 6810 (hakchi only) ? a similar transparency issue was solved with this preset ID on "Soul Blazer"
I would have tried myself but I never played at all this game and don't know how to go in the cave place^^

I tried 6810 but didn't change.

This game is great, its a fun co-op game, and since you only get gameover if both players die in same screen you can play with a girlfriend or a child.

The dark caves are at stage 3,

TECMO Super NBA Basketball: screen issue just like Tetris & Dr. Mario but ONLY when you load a save state. A little odd.

TECMO Super NBA Basketball: FIXED! Well done, Bosco. This patch would be added to the Robin64's patch pack.

More issues about Tecmo Super NBA Basketball:

A bunch of pixels keep hidden at the lower part of the screen. This doesn't affect the gameplay in self but looks very odd if you have played the game in the original system. At the lower part of the screen, during a match, there would be a color line at the court (blue, green... it depends the team chosen). Besides the texts are not in the center of the screen. To fix it you would have to stretch the screen up.

This happens only with CANOE. Tested with snes9x and works fine.

Is it possible to convert the ROM for the Satellaview game "Special Tee Shot" to work as a stand-alone game on Canoe?  It doesn't require any server-side data, so I think it should be a matter of editing some headers or pointers or something of that sort much like what was done for "Golf Daisuki! O.B. Club".

Since the game "Special Tee Shot" is already 100% in English (as it was going to be a full retail product in the West before being suddenly reworked to become "Kirby's Dream Course") no fan translation would be necessary.

So you're confirming it doesn't show pixels on a real console?
I've played Panic in Nakayoshi World (at the least with a flashcart on a real console) and seen random pixels at the bottom of the screen.

So I downloaded SNES9xGX 4.4.1 and it has a feature where you can add your own customize background music, I want to know how that works, what files do I need to download for it so I can put my own music.  :)

Hey guys I know sluffy made patches to correct the high gamma in menus with high res text in SD3 and Secret of Mana PAL versions, but was there ever a gamma patch for the non vanilla VC version of Secret of Mana? 10B0 ID only works with the VC SoM, I'm using the VWF version with ID 1016 so high res works but there is high gamma. If you guys could link me to a gamma patch or know of one that would work with a non vanilla version of SoM that would be greatly appreciated!

just the opposite, these pixels are shown in a real console and some of these pixels are not shown in canoe.

For the "Sparkliss" puzzle mode of Super Tetris 3, the bottom edge of the screen where it shows what stage you're on is partially cut off.  It looks more or less like this:

I think it has something to do with the game actively using all 240 vertical pixels instead of the normal 224, but I could be wrong.  Can something be done about this?

KingMike

I know a real NTSC NES can use all 240 vertical lines (though games were often designed with the assumption the top and bottom 8 would never be seen, and might not bother to clear the garbage in those lines), but I thought NTSC SNES consoles (which would include this game, since it's a Japanese game) only used 224 lines.

I randomly loaded up several NTSC ROMs (some from Japan, some from the US) on Snes9x 1.59.2 for Windows, and toggled the "Extend Height of SNES Image" option on the display configuration screen.  Some games were all black for the first 8 and last 8 rows of pixels (i.e. no additional picture data), while for others there was additional visual information on both to and bottom.

Does anyone still have Bosco82's patch for Tecmo Super NBA Basketball?  It's gone from Sendspace.
