I completely agree.  The potential is sky high with this game.

Also if the animals are being downplayed in this version, perhaps in the future we could work on another version which heavily favours the usage and is designed with them more in mind.  While the animals are definitely a main feature of the original game, and a lot of parts are specifically tailored to them, some parts feel kinda forced or mundane, or you barely get to use the animal, etc.

I particularly enjoyed the Bee platforming levels and mechanics, but also kinda wished the Gorilla and Mole sections were more interesting and lasted longer.

I'm getting ahead of myself and am still really looking forward to your version being released but it was just food for thought. :)
Hi para! :)
Sure, that sounds like a cool idea also! However, I have a lot of other projects that I need to do also so maybe somewhere down the road! :)

Regarding the animal usage, I agree that many parts of the original game dropped the ball on this one. They're either uninspired or under used...and some animals and the need to constantly change from one to another in the original can be outright annoying at times. Given the fact that I've overhauled the game to use Nemo and the Wand much more, many animals that use a regular attack(gorilla, mouse) have been greatly reduced as Nemo can do the same with the Wand weapon...plus it has the charge attack! But I did leave in the more interesting ones such as, like you said, the bumble bee and the fish, etc. I tried to make the animal riding in this hack more unique and interesting! ;) Hope it all works out and you and everyone will enjoy the hack!

Cheers!!

Sounds awesome man.  I have a ton of ideas and projects on the go as well but maybe that will come into play at some point, or I'll just mess around with it to get better with the Editor.

Either way, looking forward to the release of your game!

Thanks para and sounds good! :)
It's very close to ready, I just need to play through the game several more times to see if there's anything left to fix/adjust! ;)

Sta tuned!

A wonderfull classic of my childhood, i truly love this game, and this hack looks amazing, can't wait to play it! Always felt that Nemo had to use the Wand whenever he wanted but instead only could at the end, the hack's level designs also looks interesting! Keep up the good work!
Cheers from Spain. :woot!:

I passed the game first time, looks pretty nice, and, as planned by author, now it's more platformer, than puzzle with animals.

There are minor level-design bugs - platforms block jumps, when it's no need, sometimes possible to view areas from original game (maybe there are secret pathes, I didn't try to find it at first pass), minor glitches with graphics. If you planning to polish hack, I can send you more detail report.

Some bugs I found:

* Nemo's House battle with Stingray, the fire towers have the turtle shell tiles.
* Also in Nemo's House, palette of the Lizard and the Mouse are brownish instead of purplish.
* IIRC the sky area also has an extra unused key.

Nitpicks on stage design:

* The step-able platforms in the Flower Garden above the screen out of the player's sight are a bit annoying.
* Also step-able platforms on the base of the screen out of sight. You can't tell that there's ground to walk on (the part where you need a bee to get a 1-up).
* You should tell whether the pits are deadly or has a secret passage, like deadly pits are black at the base while secret paths are continuous.
* The water area where you use the Hermit Crab just to grab the keys is underwhelming.
* The blowfishes are annoying as they can follow you even out of the water. I hope they can receive at least a one hit kill.
* The enemies in the train area are invincible to the wand attacks.
* Some stages still has traces of the same level design of the original.  :(

I feel like the main charm of the game is the key collection and the animal usage. Collecting 1-ups can easily be ignored by the player when they have the option of going straight to the door without the key collection mechanic.

Hi spiiin! :)
Thanks so much and glad you think it's pretty nice! :)

Thanks for the suggestions, and yes, some of the areas are left there as secrets. :)
And I just finally got CadEditor44 to working...OMG I should've checked it out sooner because it has new features that I needed to make many of the things in the hack look better or work better!! :O

Ok, I will have to find time to give the hack more polish...thanks so much for the editor update and your help!! :D Yes, please send me a detail report, that would be much appreciated!! :)

Thanks and cheers!!

Hi Zynk! :)
Thanks so much and thanks for the suggestions and comments! :)

Thanks for the list above, as mentioned in my reply to spiiin above, I just checked out the CadEditor44 and it now has the tools that I need to polish some of the areas including the things you mentioned above! So, stay tuned for an update to the hack!! :D

Also, regarding the wrong palette for the stingray's fire, this is one of those areas that I'm not good at. I have no clue how to update the palette so if anyone knows how to that can lend me a hand, please do! :)

About the change to more of an action-platformer with less animal-riding...that was more of a personal design choice as riding the animals in the original kind of annoyed me lol. But, in the future, I could create a new Little Nemo hack that would actually maximize the animal usage!  ;)

Ok thanks again and stay tuned! Cheers!!

Hi spiiin!
I just realized that the 'Edit BigBlocks' and 'Edit Blocks' options are grayed out and not accessible for levels 8-2 and 8-3. Am I missing something or is that the way it is for now? If so, will these be available for the next update?

Thanks!

Thank you SO much!! :D
I'm now able to do everything that I wanted to do for the hack! ... well...mostly...except the enemy sprite load in stage 5's boss room and a few other things that would require hex editing. ;)

Thanks again spiiin! :)

Just going through looking for personal projects of interest and wow, I really want to play this. I had the original cart as a kid and already beat the game. I too felt let down that you got the wand during the last stage only. I also felt defenseless at times against certain enemies since throwing candy can only stun them (but they are still difficult to avoid). That and the key collecting got annoying at times (e.g. finding 5/6 of them only to discover that I can't complete the level). I really like what you've done and look forward to playing through it. Thanks!!

EDIT: Just played it last night and really had fun. I like how the two distinct gameplay styles are blended throughout every level rather than only used at the end and the key gathering being made into mini-games at times was a very nice touch. Lastly, the train (House of Toys) level was a lot better too; the original was SUPER annoying.

Hi djnforce9!
Thanks so much for the kind words and the nice review I just saw you wrote up for this hack! Much appreciated and means a lot!! :)

Really glad you enjoyed it and the style of the gameplay I had made this hack to be. I'm actually in the process of making some updates to this hack. Mostly just to polish the graphics and further smooth out the gameplay in a few areas. I do intent to add a brand new boss at the end of level 7 so hopefully that'll make it even more interesting. Keep an eye out for it! :)

Thanks again and cheers!!

Cool! Looking forward to your update. The existing boss you added was fun (BARELY won that fight at one health left haha); looking forward to another.

A personal suggestion though: would it be possible to add more platforming areas to the "House of Toys" while the train sequence could break up the action in between rather than having the train throughout the whole level? I always found that level under-utilized in the original because it's JUST the train.

Hi djnforce9! :)
Just submitted the new version of this hack with a new boss at the end of level 6! Feel free to check it out once it's up on the site! Hope you enjoy it even more than the older version!! :D :)

Regarding House of Toys, unfortunately, this isn't something I'm able to do right now, given the fact that I am very busy outside of the hacking scene and that I'll likely need to look into the code a bit more to accomplish this. However, I've added as much 'bonus' areas as I could to the level to spice it up for the time being! Hope you'll like it until I eventually get the time to do what you've requested.

Thanks again for the kind words and feedback! :)

Cheers!
