Help with IPS patchers...
« on: July 16, 2017, 03:04:02 am »
Hi, so I'm not exactly new to the scene but I've recently had trouble with patching a game I wanted to try out. So I'm trying to patch Final Fantasy V (J) for the SNES with the Expert patch and then on top the Spoof patch. I'm well aware the Spoof patch requires RPGe's translation before patching. Now the thing is I can't even patch the game with any of these patches and I'm not sure why. I've tried Lunar IPS, IPSWin, SNEStuff, and Floating IPS but nothing. The CRC matches and I can play the game vanilla so something goes horribly wrong while patching. I get this message after SNEStuff crashes though where the other ones just send a report to windows:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The most basic question with SNES patches: have you tried it with and without a header?

I did but after messing around with SNEStuff, I noticed an option for formatting the IPS Patch and used it... then switched to Lunar IPS to apply the patch afterwards because I have no clue what to tick on SNEStuff lol. So far I've got the RPGe translation working. I guess I'm going to have to do some trial and error?

Update: Yea I had to format the patches to get them all to work. Thanks for the tip!
