Cool. Back on my laptop and now there's a bar on the left and the right. BUT, when I pick the Metroid theme the site is still using the old layout. :(

yeah, i prefer the RHDN Pro theme myself (never even bothered with the theme selection actually). maybe if the color palette could be changed separately from the layout?

Isn't that a good thing, though...?  ;D

Actually, the new site theme looks alright, now.  The double-right column thing only happens at larger (than 1366px) resolution and the left bar is persistent until about 1024px.  But, um... why did the main site forget what theme I was using since yesterday?
It's still mighty bright, too.  If I could get this theme in a nice shade of blue, I'd be good to go~

It's a real departure from the old one. How do I get to a dark theme? I thought someone said there was one.

You can change it in your profile settings. It's a lifesaver.

Definitely. I chanted to the "romh" theme, and.... HURRAY the good RHDN look is back.

Things seem better for me thus far. Thanks for addressing some of the issues which myself and a few were experiencing.

I like the changes to the main page better now, but I still have a recommendation. Reduce the amount of random hacks and translations and only do a few with larger screenshots and perhaps the title underneath instead.

One of the sites I contribute to, Hardcoregaming101, features just 1 random article on the front page and they have at least hundreds of articles to browse through. I think it works well with even just 1.

Also, clicking Home brings you back to the main forum page and not the RHDN front page, which I'm assuming is Home.

Chronosplit

I would like it if the randoms was only one, which would refresh after you click/refresh something.  That sounds perfect honestly.

I think it's perfect now! Thank you!

Is it really necessary to feature screenshots for newest utilities and documents? Most of the time the image is left blank, no?

I 2nd this and say the same for the docs. Just feature the hacks. They actually offer something to catch the eye instead of just being a screenshot of about 500 hex values or something similar.

Update By: Nightcrawler

ROMhacking.net has refreshed its look for the modern age! Our new theme (RHDN Boss) and layout focuses on two fronts. First, we have provided mobile and tablet friendly viewing with a new responsive design. This new design covers both site and forum. We've moved to HTML5/CSS3 with jQuery which will allow us to make many further enhancements going forward such as enhancing our forms, adding AJAX capabilities, search as you type, and more.

The second focus of the refresh was increasing the visibility of the many great works in our database. We have added several new widgets to enhance visibility of new material, as well as existing material. Visibility will also see a boost with our entry into social media. We have added tweet and share buttons to all of our entry pages to get the word out on your favorite works. We are currently considering additional solutions to further increase visibility internally such as RHDN likes, favorites, or recommendations.

This has been a year of infrastructure improvements for the future and our front-end was not left out. More great things are yet to come!

Liking the new format. Looks very good! Still clean and easy to use but with some key enhancements. Miss the darker blue theme though[RHDN Pro], it's easier on the eye's and simply classic RHDN. And if I may suggest HTTPS? Remember reading that it was being worked on but can't remember what the difficulty was. With hacking and MITM attacks becoming more and more prevalent, it would seem very wise to start using it. If there is a cost to making it happen, maybe setup a Patreon so we all can offer donations to the running costs and upkeep of the site.

Especially like the screen shot for new projects! Very cool touch.

If they can change the white colored background back to the blue color from the old design, I would definitely like the new design.

One functionality loss that annoys: there is no longer a message why a translation or hack was updated on the 'latest ....' pages. This makes it more troublesome to figure out what is actually new and may cause mistakes.

Also people, you can change the forum to the old look at least.

This is only a problem in mobile, probably due to space taken up by the sidebars.  It's alive and well on the big screen:

The new site looks great for me, I use a 49" UHD TV as my monitor so having a bunch of stuff in my face but organized looks good since the size keeps it from looking "cluttered" as some have mentioned. Kind of an outlier as far as users go I realize, but just wanted to throw my chip in the pile.
Just another old and grumpy gamer. Don't mind me.

There's actually a place where it says what was changed? I never knew that. Where is it?

All the latest lists also have a list of latest updates where you'll find this, click see more to find it.  The submission queue also has these since a recent update.  In the new layout, the right sidebars farther down will show all updates for the last 30 days.

The reasons are disabled for mobile now in the new layout though.
