ROMhacking.net has refreshed its look for the modern age! Our new theme (RHDN Boss) and layout focuses on two fronts. First, we have provided mobile and tablet friendly viewing with a new responsive design. This new design covers both site and forum. We've moved to HTML5/CSS3 with jQuery which will allow us to make many further enhancements going forward such as enhancing our forms, adding AJAX capabilities, search as you type, and more.

The second focus of the refresh was increasing the visibility of the many great works in our database. We have added several new widgets to enhance visibility of new material, as well as existing material. Visibility will also see a boost with our entry into social media. We have added tweet and share buttons to all of our entry pages to get the word out on your favorite works. We are currently considering additional solutions to further increase visibility internally such as RHDN likes, favorites, or recommendations.

This has been a year of infrastructure improvements for the future and our front-end was not left out. More great things are yet to come!

Wooooow what a surprise!!! So many new things  ;D Amazing work guys! Have got to love that content visibility, what a great day

General thing for discussing about it I guess.  A bunch of congratulations, this is a definite upgrade right out the gate.

It's very uh... bright to me, but the homepage and database make use of shadows and darker blues to not make this nearly as blinding as I had feared.  I don't see this as a permanent problem for my sensitive eyes either way.  I love how right next to the news you immediately see the latest hacks and translations now, it puts the site's purpose front and center.  And we finally have a place for newest homebrew!  :D

nesrocks

Yeah I quickly grabbed the dark theme for the forum. Not a fan of bright. But oh my god, the site is so good now, I wasn't expecting this  ;D

It's gonna take me awhile to get used to this new design. And I'd be lying if I said I liked this design. Sometimes change is tough.

Is it necessary to have all that latest hacks, translations side bar thingy on every single page that's not the forum? Can't it just be displayed for the main page?

Eden.GT

I would say it looks a bit cramped though. But, since there are more images on display, I guess it could be the payback of the new addition. I wished there were just as much darker blues as there used to be.
Is the pool clean?

Two nitpicks:

1. The main page looks pretty cluttered now. I'd drop one of the columns in favour of centering the main column and sidebar.
2. Some of the new 'at a glance' sections aren't really that valuable; 'Recent Updates' includes things like avatar updates for...some reason.

A new face lift never hurts.  I'm actually digging the new threads...no pun intended  ;)

I just found the theme slider again, that is a bit better.  Sorry, but back to Scoundrel for me on forums.  They're a bit brighter than the main site to me. :P

I do see the complaints about clutter, as in the things like random images.  It's a cool idea that can potentially bring someone to download something new (I found myself clicking on them a lot actually), but they don't cycle or anything when navigating the site, even when you click on one of the random images.  And yeah, avatar updates are... odd.

EDIT: Oh, it appears I made this right before the announcement popped up.  Whoops.  :-[

Pretty cool! It's not completely a positive change for me though, I was kinda disoriented with the more horizontal layout. Personally I think the rightmost column could be either skipped or integrated into the one to the left of it, and then each column could be somewhat further apart. I just prefer a more vertical layout, even if I have to scroll, as it's more relaxing to look at.

How do you change the forum theme to something darker?

Kea

Go to Profile -> Account Settings, then hover over the "Modify Profile" button to reach the Look and Layout section; you can change the forum theme there.

Personally I'm going to stick with the old standard theme - this new one is a little too spread out for my liking.

Why is it not vertical to you? On my browser there is a vertical scroll bar, and no horizontal scroll bar. I use full hd monitor (desktop).

lol.. yeah. is a bit on the eyes... ;p

I thought I got redirected to one of those 123url sites for a second.
Anyway, it would be nice to have a button to hide an individual column. The tweets column is way to the bottom, you have to scroll a lot to see it. A way to hide columns as you see fit would be ideal.

Loving it! I get the mobile view with my 7" tablet vertically aligned, and the tablet view (possibly full screen view. I haven't tried it on PC) with my tablet sideways. Both look great and are much easier to use!

Oh it's not that bad, I just don't like that so much of the horizontal space is covered with various info and images. It's less clean and relaxing.
