I just realized the Metroid theme still exists.

THANK GOD.  :woot!:

If anyone doesn't like the default theme on the forums, try the Metroid theme. Doesn't feel like you're a deer in headlights when you first sign on, and everything's quite legible.

SO MUCH EASIER ON MY EYES.

Check this out. Works great in Stylish/Stylist.

I think it looks really good. Great to see the movement shift to CSS3/HTML5 and responsive layouts.

Interesting though there is a drop-down menu and left hand menu with all of the same content items... lose the left hand menu and limit news on the homepage to 2-4 items would allow far less side-menu boxes required.

I'd put the Featured Hacks and Featured Translations as a 2 column section in the header of the homepage with the news and right hand menus below it. Allowing features to actually feature and news to flow.

Large content websites such as IGN, Newgrounds and Gamespot do it really nicely but I guess RHDN always had the news this way which gives it its own touch.

I'll always use my own theme though as I like dark interfaces. ^_^;

A pixel theme could be nice. Probably a bit on the bandwidth if everyone used it though.

I did a quick idea on what one would look like just for a bit of fun.

Update By: Nightcrawler

ROMhacking.net has refreshed its look for the modern age! Our new theme (RHDN Boss) and layout focuses on two fronts. First, we have provided mobile and tablet friendly viewing with a new responsive design. This new design covers both site and forum. We've moved to HTML5/CSS3 with jQuery which will allow us to make many further enhancements going forward such as enhancing our forms, adding AJAX capabilities, search as you type, and more.

The second focus of the refresh was increasing the visibility of the many great works in our database. We have added several new widgets to enhance visibility of new material, as well as existing material. Visibility will also see a boost with our entry into social media. We have added tweet and share buttons to all of our entry pages to get the word out on your favorite works. We are currently considering additional solutions to further increase visibility internally such as RHDN likes, favorites, or recommendations.

This has been a year of infrastructure improvements for the future and our front-end was not left out. More great things are yet to come!

The site is now too cluttered! :( I strongly believe in the motto "Don't fix what isn't broken."! I've always said that if Mi(c)ro$oft made cars, their cars would have square wheels and Mi(c)ro$oft would have the audacity to claim that they are much better than round wheels! :( The previous version of this site was much better and the best!

You're fully entitled to your opinions about the redesign, but in contrast to your "don't fix what isn't broken" perspective, the redesign was the 3rd most popular feature request out of 21 features voted on by members of the community. http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=24162.0

If you're referring to "Responsive design/mobile friendly site layout" we got none of those from this redesign.

The entire site is now response and mobile friendly now... What are you even talking about?

How is loading a main page full of images more responsive then a main page without those images? Not to mention if you scroll down a bit and click on one of the images down there (Newest Utilities for example), the page refreshes and puts you to the top each time so you need to keep scroll down back to where you left off (Newest Utilities).

I think you fail to understand what "responsive" means in web design.

Special

After looking it up, you're right that I didn't as it has a different meaning for web design, I took responsive as if it means "quick to load" & "quick to navigate" neither of those two things are improved with the 2.0 launch.

Did two of the subforums just get nuked, or is it just me..?
This signature is an illusion and is a trap devisut by Satan. Go ahead dauntlessly! Make rapid progres!

Mauron

Just noticed the missing ones myself.
Mauron wuz here.

Chronosplit

-Site bug reporting place.
-Discussion of site features.
-Sticky telling people how the article system works.

All gone.  I gotta cut this short due to things being slow as molasses on my side, but this is not site business as usual and even if there is a replacement in the works this all smells fowl.  Usually there's a warning.  I don't care if this is the result of drama or not but either way this is very concerning, and the silence about it just compounds the whole thing.

Seems so. I swear there was a general discussion forum on this site before.

Was that discontinued in favour of the Discord server or something? Cause that's really not a good idea for a community management point of view.

It's been like this since yesterday, I too am confused as to the whereabouts of our missing forums.

Perhaps some of the site staff is just too sensitive for a general discussion.

I can live without the general discussion sub-forum. This is a romhacking/translation hacking site. I don't see anything wrong with staying on topic.

Site discussion seems like it should stay though.

I can too, but that doesn't mean we should have to.

This is all misinformed and unrelated to 3.0. Be patient and there will be an informative news article shortly for those wishing to be supportive.

This topic needs to be kept on-topic to be relevant for the hand-off to the next person doing further design. It will be locked for that purpose.
