Portrait of Ruin mod: Evergreen Paintings

This is my first serious attempt at hacking a game. For this project I chose to modify Portrait of Ruin, for several reasons. It is one of my favorite Castlevanias, yet also one with a lot of missed potential. The level design is lacking, the game systems easily broken due to overpowered skills, and the enemy placement is also utterly lacking, ranging from being too empty to just flinging way too many annoying mobs into a room. I have released a minimod for the sole purpose of fixing this a bit, but of course there's a lot more that could be done:

This project aims at fixing most of that. I will focus mainly on fixing the gameplay systems, including removing superflous mechanics, providing for deeper and more meaningful RPG elements, rebalancing the skills, making the team based mechanics more useful, and more. I also do plan to change up the levels, though the layout will most likely remain the same. Here's two samples of what I've come up with so far:
