As talking to MindFlower over on the Metroid Construction forums figured I'd update here as well to keep people in the loop :)

Working on a Samus sprite set for him.

The old is on the left as the new one is on the right.  Still a random sprite palette and yes it does fit into the space that's assigned within the game's data.  Using and utilizing most of the space to make Samus look bulky by being in an actual suit.

Once I'm done and satisfied with it I'll send it to him via  YYCHR sheet :)

....and no, this is not getting in the way of my other projects that I belong to so please don't bring those up here out of respect for this thread :)

(Whistles) Lovely sprite work as usual Sinis :) I hope to see more awesome work this week, hopefully? XD

Mindflower

I also was eager trying to design a new area.
Hot sands!
Well, it's a very early and incomplete mockup, trying to find out the strengths of this design choice. It's also  unpolished and i am open for criticism of all kind.

Im liking the new tile sprites MindFlower, can't wait to see more, keep up the great work!

Mindflower

Another incomplete tilesheet,
underwater underground!

Well this i a lot of work to be honest! I wanted to show the work during formation.

DavidtheIdeaMan

Nicely done MindFlower  the tiles look awesome!

Something about the color scheme of your tilesets reminds me of Batman: The Animated Series. I think it's the dark backgrounds.

The Metroid Engine is set this way, that you ONLY have a foreground layer, means 'air'/passable tiles are always in front of the sprites. That's one real knockback one has to deal with when hacking this game.

This means having black, much black, i try to compensate it with many detail tiles. It's a real task for the landscape not seeming bland and boring, but lively, vivid and exciting.

I liked Batman the animated series as a kid, so i take it as a compliment ;)

DavidtheIdeaMan

Hoo man,I can't wait to see more updates to this game!

Mindflower

What happened last :
Some rumors of a construction site: airship visited.
This is were it all began.

Man this is heavy work!
Gonna try to use one Brinstar Frame for this, and the other frames for the animated rest of the area.

Mindflower

Success!
A Spaceship arrived!
A frame reserved for this Screen, edited screen assembler code, Palettes adjusted, Pixels placed one by one. Plus you see the front view of the awesome Space Suit Sinis did for me.

Guess this will be the start of the adventure. Looks familiar? Well, it's NES Metroid! :)

Cheers

I spent the last full two days painting the ship. Much life time lost, but i feel it was worth it ^^

Well, i initially had the idea of having different suits for Samus for each area. This is exactly what Sinis is doing for me, which i appreciate a lot!

DavidtheIdeaMan

Oh,lol my mistake then, but still it looks great! :)
