Hacks and Translations that can be finished...

What's up fellas?

It came to me when I checked out TheHappyFaceKing's thread, there's a lot of incomplete hacks floating around that can be finished and inspire people to finish them. It's kinda hard to get in contact with authors to see if you can finish their old hacks, especially from the late 90's and early 2000's as long as you give credit to the original authors. So to get the dice rolling I'll take it upon myself to finish Toma-Chan's Luigi Bros. This hack hasn't been touched since 1999 and it'll be cool to see it complete, since World 1 is done.

So what hacks that are not finished you'd like to see finished? Hopefully people will step up and get inspired to finish unfinished hacks. Especially with today's modern tools.

Besides Hacks, I know the abandoned translation projects on here could definitely use some dusting off (I think a couple of those games listed are actually being worked on though there has been no more word on the Albert Odyssey project for a long time now).

Finishing abandoned translations would be really cool, too. I changed the thread title, thanks for reminding me about the abandoned translation projects.  :cookie:

Super Famicom Dragon Quest VI. It's beatable, but a lot of dialogue is missing.

To quote Starscream from the Transformers The Movie: "Do I hear a second on that?"

AYE!!

Someone is surely working on Tomato Adventure at this point, right?

What about that long lost castlevania patch I found for you. That looked like a great one :)

Tomato has already played through the full game on his stream. He plans to release a menu patch, with enemy names created by his stream chat, and also I'm sure he'll release the tools to do it.
He has already basically translated most of the story in his playthrough, he just doesn't have time to write, edit it, etc.

I admit, I've always wondered why Sorcerian for the Genesis was never finished, given the english translations available from Sierra and MSX.

This - and also Surging Aura. There are quite a few abandoned projects all things considered. Also, Dragon Slayer - Eiyuu Densetsu 2; I think someone worked on this one, but it was never finished. I liked DSED 1 on PC-Engine CD, there was something charming about it, despite all the issues and very common RPG tropes. Truth be told, there aren't that many SMD Japanese exclusives left which need translation patches to be enjoyed.

Well, not sure if I'd call this unfinished, but it's certainly not active.  I've been making little tweaks to one of my favorite romhacks, Wilford Brimley Battle (a River City Ransom hack).  I redid the font, and it looks so much nicer.  A few errors fixed, and some more Brimley-related text.  I think if I release it I'd have to add some more substantial stuff though, maybe a new move or something.

SpiderDave: That's pretty cool, I still play that hack from time to time for the laughs!

The Dragon Ball Z fighting games on SNES were never finished, most of them at least, speciallly Super Butouden 2 which base rom was the French version.

A few years ago there was some work being done on a translation hack/patch for Tetris Battle Gaiden for the SNES, but then dropped off the radar. That'd be another worthy.

Definitely would like to see someone finish off Dragonslayer 2 TurboCD version, I thought it was odd that was skipped over when other Legend of Heroes games are translated.

Wait ... someone has actually worked on PCE Dragonslayer 2? Where can I read about that?

I only know that someone had a bash at the SMD version, but it was never truly finished or anything, just partially hacked. I've never heard anything about the PCE version being worked on either, but it would be pretty darn cool (I guess you'd have to do a fandub though).

Oh you meant that version? Either way still love to see that series finally get some kind of conclusion.

Hold on - is this thread turning into a translation completion request thread? I thought it was going to be about people actually telling others they're willing to finish a translation. I doubt a "request" thread will stay open...
