Would love to become a tester. Played the original translation as well as the recent "official" release.

Is this project still alive?

I have a huge urge to replay RS3 this time around, and I wouldn't mind to test the english retranslation.

I wouldn't mind it if the re-translation was more of a script-port of the recent U.S. releases.
It would make Romancing Saga 3 feel like an updated version of the vanilla game.
The full package, imo.

One should keep in mind, that RS3's names and dialoges were changed for the localisation.

For example, the final boss was renamed to Oblivion, instead to use for example, the more approciate name chosen by the Mana Sword translation. 破壊するもの Hakaisurumono means "Thing (which) does destruction", therefore naming the final boss Destroyer is the most fitting.

To compare, the word "Oblivion" in japanese has several meanings as substantives, according to Google Translate.

忘却 Bōkyaku = oblivion, forgetfulness, lapse of memory
遺却 Ikyaku = neglect, aberration, forgetfulness, oblivion, silence, obliviousness
虚無 Kyomu = nothingness, nihility, vacuity, nullity, nonbeing, oblivion
失念 Shitsunen = forgetting, oblivion, lapse of memory

The 3rd Kyomu fits the most context-wise, since Google Translate also translates it as "Void", which is a common theme in the main final fantasy games.

If the japanese had the most approciate name reflecting the name Oblivion, it would be 無の化身 Mu no keshin, which means translated "Incarnation of Nothingness".

I'm usually against this because the ones to port are usually not the best specimens.  That goes for both RS2 and 3, there are issues in both.  However, provided some revisions are done that approach wouldn't be necessarily a bad thing.  FFV's GBA script port turned out alright for example.

I tried to contact magno, but I haven't yet received an answer for the moment.
I hope that he could be back with his translation.

I agree. I also was very happy to see someone interested in translating aabeta. Hope he gets back to it.

I would've wanted to reference J121, Choppasmith, Chaos Rush and the script ports they've done. But I didn't want my previous post to sound too preachy.

I'd love to see Romancing Saga 2 and 3 get proper SNES translations... I love the old art!

Over a year ago I sent them a PM offering to be a tester and I never got a response. I don't have a lot of hope for this project still being alive, especially since an official English translation was released. :/

It's weird for myself, especially considering that magno always has been someone (at least until now) very serious about his projects.
