The link to the patch file is for 2.5.2 even though it says 2.5.3. Also can you post a link to the patch page on the first post of this thread? What, are people supposed to search chrono trigger plus each time?
I mean, one could bookmark the download page... but I agree, there should definitely be a link on the first post. *nods*

Is it possible to charm Slash on the first fight? I successfully did it on Flea so I got lost thinking if that is just a matter of leveling more, as Twin Charm always fail by "intention". :(

He's out of line, but he's right. I updated the first post.

The patch available is 2.5.3 I just forgot to rename it.

Twin Charm has a higher success rate than regular charm by quite a bit. Slash has nothing to steal because his item was Slasher 2 and it didn't make sense to have that available that early, so I removed it.

With all that settled, can anyone help me make msu-1 versions of the new tracks?

If you just need help with pcm conversions, I can give it a shot.  Shoot me a link or file over email.  Haven't done it before, but the documentation seems straight forward enough.

On the topic of PS1 tracks being put in this hack, I just remembered

the first little bit of Frog's Theme on the OST is slightly extended with a section not in the actual SNES game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1r1GASiAgY4

be nice if that section could be inserted into the game or something

Way ahead of you on that one. We've already got that track finished.

Ah okay lol

Good to see it's inclusion either way

Out of curiosity, is the translation in this hack of the game different to the Woolsey translation? The one in the bugfix and uncensored patch seemed good but did leave in instances of Magus being named before the party meets the character even though they're suppose to be referred by Fiendlord before they appear.

The translation remains mostly the same, except a few instances where the ds translation was used because it was either better, or made the intent clearer.

There is one major exception to this; 600ad has been completely converted to Shakespearean English.

As for Magus, I went the opposite route. Everyone in 600 ad will always call him Magus regardless of what you name him.

The Shakespearian English is a nice touch. Using DS lines when necessary is welcome too. So does this mean the lines that refer to things brought up in Cross were made more clear? Is Fiendlord's Keep referred to as Magus' castle?

It's still whatever it was in the snes version.  It didn't change its name.

I'll echo this as well!

Ben, been with you on this almost since the start and you the others have done simply amazing work! The result has been something really fun and interesting and something I think the original design team would admire! Much gratitude to you!

Thank you for this hack. I'm replaying Chrono Trigger with it. So far I've only seen small changes but I just completed 600 AD first visit, I'm pretty sure I'll be seeing more content thereafter. ^^

Can the prison be visited again after being cleared with your hack? Its something I always wished I could back when I was little playing this game. *¬*

Also, I know it's a real hassle but, may you pretty pretty please consider an ips patch to revert shakespearean english back to normal english? I find it really immersion breaking for me, since my native language is not English and I certainly don't imagine middle ages people talking like that :(((

Shakespeare's work were plays to entertain. They are dramatic works, and the dialogue was manipulated to suit the stage. Therefore his characters' language did not always reflect how real people would have spoken...

For me, its just as if all those persons were just 'pretending' to be from middle ages instead of actually being from there xD

Definitely more content as you get further in.

The prison can't be revisited, why would you want to?

As for the 600 ad Shakespearean English it would be way too much work to make an alternate patch. If it gets too much hate I'll switch it out for the DS translation,  but for now it seems fairly well received.

Ignore the haters. The olde-english is a very charming and excellent change and the DS version of the script is, well, lacking by comparison. Please do not remove it!

Please don't call me a hater, I don't wish to annoy or make others unhappy. I'm just asking for the original snes/ds text back as an optional patch, not hating for removal of things others may like. Imagine to time travel to 600 AD and find out everyone talks as Monty Phyton, even peasants, dramatically and with forced accents and weird phrasing as if they all were in a play. It's just that inmmersion removing for me ^^U It makes me really sad because if it wasn't for that, this version of Chrono Trigger would be my new default way of experiencing my favourite game of my childhood. Specifically since 600 AD was always my favourite age of the game and its ruined and annoying and immersion breaking for me now. That's why I posted here if the patch could be made, even though I know it's a bit of a hassle of work u.u

Oh, okie. Hahaha, it's because revisiting old dungeons and finding new content there it's something I always loved as a child in rpgs! ♥♥♥

I get where you're coming from, but I see it a little differently. For me, I like the way Frog talks in the original SNES version, and this. Chrono Trigger (and Chrono Cross of course much more) just did that, to have the characters stand out with unique ways of speaking, or 'accents'. Frog, to me, that's just the way he speaks, despite how the other NPCs in that time do... perhaps they just don't? I feel it's intentional as opposed to a foolish oversight, like "oops we forgot to make the NPCs talk like that also". It's like Frog may indeed be the last person to talk that formal/shakespearean - to me it's just part of his awesome character. Take that aspect away from him, and while still cool, he just doesn't seem like the Frog I know and love.

Now about making an optional patch, not only would it be a whole lot of (extra) work I'd imagine, but you would have to update the patch each time a dialog change is made, because of how dialog pointers work. So that would become a pain as well - juggling two separate dialog scripts doesn't sound like fun lol. If anything the patch would ideally be made for the "final" version when there is no more possible dialog edits.

? uh... it's 600AD. You don't think people talked differently 1400 years ago? It's fine and makes more sense.
