@Gi Nattak
The charm of the way Frog speaks is now expanded to the rest of the time period which only enhances the charm of the experience and the effect of the time traveling nuance. Frog talking the olde-english in absence of everyone else from the time period talking the same way always stood out as odd and just didn't seem right. Ben & team have corrected that oversight of localization. 600AD just couldn't be more perfect now.

If you are not a fan, that's fine, play the original game or a few of the alternate versions.

However pressuring Ben to create another patch that removes something which took a lot of effort to create is just not cool. It's also against site policy(feature begging), so let's let it go.

Hey, let's change the conversation.  :)

Gi Nattak and I just finished adding in the PSX/DS tracks. I've got one tiny glitch to figure out tomorrow, and then it's off to Ben to add the music to the appropriate places.

Bombermans

QuoteI feel it's intentional as opposed to a foolish oversight, like "oops we forgot to make the NPCs talk like that also". It's like Frog may indeed be the last person to talk that formal/shakespearean - to me it's just part of his awesome character. Take that aspect away from him, and while still cool, he just doesn't seem like the Frog I know and love.

Totally agreed, I think Frog is meant to symbolize a 'jedi' or 'ronin', a disgraced knight that no longer fits anywhere. He is a Frog, a monster, but goes all the way out to speak like a gentleman, like a noblemen, for he wants to be the perfect knight, the one from chivalric romance, and this philosophy its so important to him that makes him almost cry when failing to protect the queen. But would random villagers from town also go out of their way to do the same thing? Of course not. Would the chef, who is only worried about practical things like feeding people, go out of his way to speak in shakesperean poetry? No. Would the knight captain, who is also a practical man only worried about fighting a war, go out of his way to speak in ellaborate sheenigans almost in verse? No, of course not.

The thing is, Shakespeare's plays do not represent how people talked back in 'the olde times', nor did they intent that when they were written.

QuoteNow about making an optional patch, not only would it be a whole lot of (extra) work I'd imagine, but you would have to update the patch each time a dialog change is made, because of how dialog pointers work. So that would become a pain as well - juggling two separate dialog scripts doesn't sound like fun lol. If anything the patch would ideally be made for the "final" version when there is no more possible dialog edits.

I see. Sad u.u

Quote? uh... it's 600AD. You don't think people talked differently 1400 years ago? It's fine and makes more sense.

Yes, they would talk differently, but certainly not in poetic, ellaborated, almost verse like phrases. They aren't in a play. Specially peasants and soldiers. Also, by that logic, the game should have such different talking styles for each and every age, not only middle ages.

I don't agree at all, but it's an opinion and I can respect it.

I asked and was told it's too much work. I just explained why did I post the question because I was called 'hater' just by expressing a different opinion from others. So where's exactly the pressuring? Why are you being so aggresive to me and tell me to shut up or be banned? Have I been rude? When? Is having a different opinion and not agreeing with some of the arguments defending what looks to me forced fake 'olde english' here to "feature beg"? Jeez.

Awesome, I'm going to finish up the msu-1 conversions today as well, so he should have both versions ready at around the same time.

That's not what was said and everyone can see that. But for reference..

..this what was said.

Additionally, starting needless drama is also against site policy. Please stop and let's move on.

I actually think Bombermans made a valid point, I don't want to discourage him or others from making suggestions as many great ideas have been added to the hack because of it.

If it wasn't for the time/difficulty of implementing it I would do it.

But far more important than that is how close we are to having all these new music tracks added, Andrew Clunn has made several of them into msu-1 format so that I could start placing them in game to see where they'll fit best. (All in 1999) and shirtly after Gi Nattak and Power Panda finish the insertion it'll be available to everyone.

That's a fair point and doing so is perfectly ok. However, the reason I made the above statement is because it was starting to seem like it was getting unpleasant, which we should avoid.

Fair enough. That vibe was clear.

So are these new tracks in game music as well as PCM for the MSU-1?

ThegreatBen

All the tracks have been placed and in the places they are best suited and working fine with the MSU-1.

Keeper's dome sounds amazing in the 2300ad coliseum.

I have sent Ben the patch for adding 9 additional songs to Chrono Trigger. I will be releasing this as a standalone patch as well. The new songs are:

1: A Meeting With Destiny
2: One Sunny Day When We Met
3: Scattering Blossoms (With Intro)
4: Scattering Blossoms (No Intro)
5: A Time To Rest -After the Battle-
6: Frog's Theme (With Intro)
7: Keeper's Dome
8: Ascend to the Light
9: Boss Battle 3

Songs 1-5 are from the PSX/DS re-releases of Chrono Trigger.
Song 6 includes the intro to Frog's theme heard on the official soundtrack.
Songs 7-9 are from the CT Pre-release rom.

You all know that Gi Nattak has been super involved in this, but 2 of the songs were actually handled by Reld, and their contributions were greatly appreciated!

Ok Impala!

You guys are amazing! What a wonderful team effort!

Midnight Metronome

I started playing and just wanted to report a couple of things I noticed. Not sure how it is in the original but NPC's seem to have a large block of area below them that is not passable. As if there is something invisible there. Meanwhile other characters, like one girl in millenial fair, you can go right through.
Also, you can talk to marle before trying out lucca's warp machine and she'll say she wants to try it too even though you didn't try it yet. You can leave the area even and nobody will say anything. I thought Marle was supposed to say something to prevent you from leaving, not sure but whatever, just these small details I noticed so far.

ThegreatBen

I didn't change any collision properties.

I did have a hard time getting the telepod events working with a cutscene I added so you're probably right about that one. I'll take a look when I can.

andrewclunn

The issue with being able to talk to Marle without using the telepod first was in the original game.  I know because I did that my first half dozen times playing through the game, and only realized I could use the telepod and that it actually worked later.

PowerPanda

Okay, I think I found the perfect place for "A Time To Rest". Go here, and at 40:44, mute the Youtube video and play the SPC or MP3 of "A Time to Rest". Watch how PERFECTLY it lines up. That's all I'm saying.

(BTW, major spoilers if you've never played Chrono Trigger before.)

I've been wanting to play this for some time, but as they say life happens. I'm going to start this this weekend. What should be the right version number? The site shows 2.5.3, but the download link shows 2.5.2.

It's 2.5.3. Note that an update is imminent which will include new music. But the new music doesn't come in until the back half of the game, and from what I understand the save files will transfer over.

ThegreatBen

It works! All the new tracks work. I haven't placed every every new song, but most of 1999 now has unique music suited to it.

If you agree to report back I'll give you my current build and you can test it with the new music.

When I downloaded it, it still shows 2.5.2. I can always report back to you.

It's actually 2.3 (I forgot to rename the .ips)

But it doesn't have the new music, I haven't uploaded that version yet.

Shadic

Not to be "that guy," but any consideration to adding the prototype idea of different battle themes per era?

Just came to mind with all the music talk.  :)
