Yeah the underlying issue is that he shouldn't get the frozen flame.  Magus not working properly in the Zeal ending is expected.  Perhaps bucket Lavos is giving it potentially on defeat?  Though he did say he beat Lavos directly after the Black Omen, so it might be specific to the Lavos shell in that series of events.  I am posting my theories instead of doing the testing myself because I won't be able to test these this week (on call for work), though I can help afterwards.

Wanted to give you all the info I had on it.  I know I had the frozen flames from before fighting through the omen at all.  I also never beat lavos from the Omen, instead leaving after the queen fight each time, that's how I got 3 prizm dresses, and 6 prizm helms without a new game plus.  So at my save file, you can no longer go to the omen at all, since all three available have been destroyed.  1000, 600, and 12000.  So the error I got happens when I try to beat the game (for the first time) from the bucket, as there are only 2 ways to lavos at that point.  the bucket, or epoch (which I believe are really the same event).  I say try, because you end up fighting the outside of lavos, and then the game starts the new ending in Zeal.  If magus is in the finishing party at that point, it starts the prophets guile cut scene (I think), and then bugs out.  If hes NOT in the party, the ending works properly, but then doesn't end the game with the book, and instead sends you to cronos moms room (unless that is intended), and there is no way to get the game to be completed, and no credits, or new game plus.  You can then do the same outer lavos fight from the bucket over and over, getting the zeal ending each time but just ending up back in cronos moms room, with now way to close out the game.  Again, some of this may be completely intended, so I may be wrong in whats supposed to happen.  Anyway, I do wish you luck in figuring this out, and will provide any more info you need if I can.

Oh, one more thing, I got and used all the chips (except from the thunder dome), I did it once thinking I could try again, not realizing its a one and done thing.

If the issues stem from the frozen flame(s), then I should try to play through again trying to see where I first picked them up.  I have another save file from much earlier in the game, I can use to see where they may have come from.  If that would be helpful, I can try.

Thanks, it's definitely not intentional.  The only place you should be about to get the frozen flame is from the Lavos in the Ocean Palace.

Now that I think about it, I used it as an event trigger on the Blackbird, I'll have to make sure that it doesn't carry from there. But that's probably what's happening.

Can confirm that I got the same issue with receiving a FrozenFlame at some point, though not sure when. Also experienced the buggy Zeal ending after clearing Black Omen and tackling Lavos with Magus in the party, reloading my save and doing it without Magus let me see the Zeal ending.

Bug Report: You can change party members while in the Zeal mansion, causing color palette issues when you do. Also, using the book as Lucca caused me to spawn in Crono's Mom's room with only two party members, and I was stuck with only those two party slots for the rest of the game. Still managed to take down Lavos but it was a scary prospect. If I hadn't already done the GreenDream event I might have been able to fix my party slots, but that was the only solution I could think of for fixing this.

How would you recommend someone who hasn't played Chrono Trigger before to play?  I was thinking this hack, the Bugfix and Uncensoring hack, or the DS port.  I've heard good things about all of them but I'm just not sure where to start.

I haven't played this hack but I did play the retail Snes release of Chrono Trigger and the DS version as well and I can say without a doubt that the DS version is the best way to experience Chrono Trigger at the moment. The DS version expands on everything the Snes version had and improves it.

By the way, avoid the PSX port of Chrono Trigger, it's pretty bad since they messed up with the music, seriously, the music is so much inferior in PSX, they even messed up with some instruments and this is an insult to this game since Chrono Trigger has one of the best music around in the Snes.

Now, this patch does seem interesting, not gonna lie, I haven't played it so I can't comment on it but with the DS version you will get everything from the Snes, PSX (including the cutscenes and new music) and more so go with the DS version.

The DS version has some ties to Chrono Cross that haven't been ported over to the SNES version, likely due to hardware limitations or difficulties, so yeah, go with DS. I do hope the DS version gets ported to consoles.

Just run through several bugs in the new version. I have resumed a saved game next to the cathedral after 1st time meeting Frog, and now he is Glenn (and he is not properly displayed during battles).

I've started a new game and the girl's cat in Leene Square has blocked my way and the second time I touched it, it vanished.

Has it happened to someone else?

Thanks I accidentally uploaded my human Glenn test version. The cat behaves as normal, it probably got lodged on some scenery as it tends to do, and has always ran away when activated a second time.

I uploaded 2.5.2 it's waiting for approval. Frog is fixed and the FrozenFlame bug is fixed including a redundancy at the End of Time that will fix it for anyone that has it on an endgame save without the need to restart.

I also changed Gaspar's "One among you" speech to the ds version as it has always confused people.

I also have him name tagged as Gaspar instead of Old Man in all his dialog once you learn his identity.

Oh and Haste is single target again because it was overpowered for that part of the game, and I'll probably give her group Haste as a final tech at some point.

2.5.2 has been approved,  all should be good now.

I'm also running into an issue with beating Lavos after the Black Omen. There's a confusing cut scene with Magus leaving, and then I teleport to 65000000 BC. When I leave the ruined town, the camera is focused on the town, but the character is near the volcano on a 3 square plot of land. I can try to provide more details if it might be helpful.

So then the "stealable Frozen Flame" issue has been resolved then?  About time, dunno why I never got a reply back to my previous comment about it though but ah well, thanks for addressing it all the same Ben. :)

It's still stealable, but I added a command to remove it from your inventory if you have it when you aren't supposed to.

Hi, do you have any plans on including Singing Mountain, the cut dungeons of Zeal and the Sealed Pyramid in the future in this hack?
I knew about the Singing Mountain, but Zeal and Pyramid? I'm starting to drool again...

I would recommend the SNES original. There is nothing in the context of the story lost in the original localization aside from one horrible translation mistake (this is spoiler-free), "Someone close to you needs help. Find this person FAST." The real line is closer to a general JRPG hint about talking to people to find things to do.

It's my opinion that the DS version's translation errs on the side of technically accurate but dry. The SNES script can be odd and goofy but it also has heart and there's some subtext about the people of Medina village that is utterly lost by the translation choice in the DS version.

I'm pretty sure that hint was to direct the player to
Spoiler:
destroy the Black Omen.
I can't do anything but make a guess who it is meant to refer to.
I am only guessing that by the process of elimination. There is a hint for each of the late game sidequests, and I usually leave that for last. Once all are finished, I recall the dialogue is completely replaced and the save file chapter title changes.

Nevermind, that's just the Zeal ending being messed up by Magus being there. That's fixed on 2.5.2.

Even if you already have an end game save that's affected by this bug a single trip to the End of Time (by Epoch) will fix it permanently.

Mostly the original. There are a few parts that I thought the DS translation did a better job. Namely the confrontation with Magus, the final showdown with Azala, and one line from Gaspar.

Oh and 600ad uses Shakespearean English now.
