Every emulator is going to have different settings, but in general what you're looking for is how to configure your emulator of choice to use a real GBC bios.

I recently got MMW4 LDX to work correctly on VBA-M (visualboyadvance-m) 2.1.5 stable by doing the following:

in the gameboy settings System tab I set the emulated system to gameboy color:

then on the gameboy settings Boot ROM tab, I specify the folder where the gbc boot rom file is located and finally enable/check the "Use GBC BIOS file" option from the Options > Game Boy menu

sry, maybe i explained it a bit wrong. i mean it not software/emulator wise, i meant to change the rom internally. maybe with a header hack. to make the romfile directly handled as a gbc file, instead of a gameboy rom. that way nobody has to mess with the emulator settings. it would start directly as a gbc game

Yes and no. The GBC has two very different modes that it can be in. The mode is selected at startup and cannot be switched on the fly or anything like that. A header hack to put a game into true GBC mode instead of backwards compatible mode is trivial (in fact, this hack does something very similar to trick the GBC boot rom), and gives you a completely unplayable game.

Colorization takes a lot of assembly work. You break the game day one and spend most of the time from then to release just fixing things that used to work.

This is a great hack, but please, if it's possible, do something with Bright Man. Not only does it look weird when the entire room lights up just for his fight, the flashes he has make it worse.

I will see what I can do, but given how Brightman gets his color, I don't think its possible without undoing it.  BUT maybe this little bit of fan-fiction will make it seem more palatable:

Imagine, if you will, Mega Man has finally entered Bright Man's Lair.  It's dark, a shadowy figure is seen. What tricks does this Robot Master have planed ?

BAM, the room gets so bright, it's hard to distinguish detail!  Mega Man must do his best to continue the fight (Even YOU as the player are effected by this, background detail lost, energy/weapon info harder to see).

Bright Man pulls out ALL his tricks, BAM another flash, blinding white light, Mega Man can do nothing but freeze!!

Will YOU help Mega Man defeat Bright Man!!

The End.

Well, I don't know what about more palatable, but this was certainly fun to read
