I am the translator, Kazetrigger, for the .hack//Translate project (dothacktranslate.wordpress.com). I am the only one left in the project and the game still needs a fair amount of work.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone here with romhacking knowledge would be interested in helping to complete the project. I have some programming knowledge, but not enough to work on PSP games without potentially rendering the game unplayable.

The current patching system has the following issues:
-It causes various parts of the game to freeze (seemingly at random, but there might be a pattern I haven't found yet)
-The font is low resolution and looks unpleasant.
-Images and certain lines of text cannot be ripped from game files.

I'd like someone who is able to modify the game so that:
-The freezing issue can be fixed.
-The font can be smoothed.
-Images can be edited with English text and patched back into the game
-Text in cutscenes can be edited.
-The game's dictionary can be reprogrammed to appear in English alphabetical order rather than by Japanese syllable order

Japanese to English translation help is also appreciated.

Anyone interested in working on this with me, please send me a message or e-mail me from the .hack//Translate website.

Without some help, this project may never be complete.

Wouldn't this be a double post of http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,22887 ?

Yeah sorry, I wasn't sure where to post it, but I'm going to edit the original to include other info so it won't be the same.

It's best to put a help wanted ad if you need help with your whole project.

Is there a certain section for that? Or a certain way to format it? I can't seem to find a common guideline on it.

flame

1) Sections->Help Wanted Ads
2) >> Submit Help Wanted Ad

Format it per BBcode, whatever that is, and also in the way that makes it most likely you'll receive the help you need. It's up to you to figure that out.

I found it and submitted an ad. Thank you. You seem knowledgeable about PSP romhacking and are working on Last Ranker. Would this be something you'd be interested in helping with? I can also lend my translation skills to Last Ranker if you want assistance with that.

I am not interested. I have too many projects going on. I might check out your progress video later, though.
I am also not interested in Last Ranker anymore; it would be best continued by someone who cares.
It would be best for the romhacking community if you attempt the hacking yourself.

On the Essence of ROM Hacking
Talk with experienced people in our IRC chat and ask specific questions there.

I hear sometimes that PSP hacking is pretty generic. I don't know if it's really true. However, it's possible documents or tools regarding text hacking, graphics hacking or sound hacking in general (not platform-specific) could apply even in the case of PSP. There are zero PSP-specific hacking documents on the site.

You should look at getting started section, asking questions section and also "On the Essence of ROM Hacking". Not sure about IRC and the other sections won't be helpful.
Maybe also look for documents about pointers as those aren't mentioned in the beginner's section.

Good luck!
