You may have to enable the expansion pack for it. Make sure memory size is 8 MB in the game's settings.

Klokinator

Yo, I'm Klokinator. I'm the guy who's been pushing for the Fire Emblem community to create randomizers for 5 years.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hye1SWghZE

I created this video last year to explain the state of randomization and to educate the community on its applications.

As of 7 months ago, I was trying to update the current functional randomizer to add more options, but I am not a coder.

http://feuniverse.us/t/fe8-chaos-randomizer/2068

^I posted about it in that topic. My randomizer is... hackneyed. I have been trying to get help with it for months and months, but to no avail. If anyone here is familiar with coding in Visual Studio, I am posting to ask if they can help me feature-complete the final randomizer, which was sadly abandoned by /u/OtakuReborn (Reddit).

To explain what the randomizer lacks, here's an excerpt from my FEUniverse topic.

I am trying to add randomized shops, chests, house rewards, and MOST importantly... randomized enemies. I partially completed randomized enemies, and it works well enough, but it's a very hacky solution involving editing every single chapter to manually randomize the character slot for each enemy, and then using the randomizer's already existent boss randomization function to randomize those character slots. The biggest issue, aside from the fact it takes dozens of hours to do this, is it only works for one game currently, The Sacred Stones, and not FE6/7.

I won't get into the details, BUT if anyone wishes to help me work on it, please hit me up on reddit (/u/klokinator) or Discord (Just look up Klokinator, I'm the only one) and I'm always available there. I'll also check back on this topic periodically if I can.

huh? "Note: This list foes not include non-game-specific randomizers."

this list "foes" not? oops, typo.

edit: downloaded the master zip file off the github page for the - Dawn of Sorrow & Portrait of Ruin & Order of Ecclesia randomizer and... it seems to be missing the randomizer program. like, the assets and files and everything are there but there's no .exe included.

how do you use this one?

edit2: ugh, no clear instructions given for the mystic quest (and the rest of that guys randomizers). all it says is to run the exe.

well, i tried running the exe and after entering both the file name (with the necessary rom in the same folder) AND the entire file directory pointing to the file...still "file cannot be found".

need to check these before listing them. make sure they have an exe (in the case of my first edit) or if they have clear instructions on how exactly you use them.

i mean...i'm not telepathic. i can't read their minds to know how these work or if they're even usable.

Whoops! Typo fixed, thanks!

Many randomizers hosted on GitHub, including the DS Castlevania one, have the executable in the Releases tab.

I'm taking a wild guess here, but is your Mystic Quest ROM file name have spaces? If so, make sure you add quotes around it in the command line so your operating system can pass the argument correctly to the randomizer. If that's not the issue, I recommend contacting the author for support.

why yes it does...though i've almost never used that kind of console thing so this is new to me.

o_O odd... i enter the file name in quotes ("Final Fantasy - Mystic Quest") yet it still doesn't work. renamed the ROM file to Final Fantasy - Mystic Quest and it doesn't work with or without quote.

ERROR: [Error 123] The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect: *rom file name here*

as for that castlevania NDS randomizer, looks like you were right about the exe being on the release tab. that's a good sized one too but i guess NDS games themselves are pretty big as well. 84MB for the 64-bit version. i'll grab that later.

You're still missing the file name extension.

oops, i didn't once think to include that detail.

let's see... yeah, sure enough, that was the missing detail and it didn't need quotes to work.

well, that solves how that and the other randomizers that person made work.

edit: O_O holy... don't let the zip file size fool you. unzipped, this randomizer is over 358MB and... AVG just popped up an alert.

the randomizer .exe, DSVRandom_x64.exe, seems to have a trojan according to AVG... one where, even if i allow it, AVG will still prevent me from doing anything with the file.

here's what virustotal says...scratch that. apparently you can't link to the results page of a scan on that site but it got 8 out of 64 hits as negative.

odd...they say it checks out with AVG yet AVG blocks the file for me (can't remove it from the xip file)

Kiyoshi Aman

It's written in Ruby, of course it's a pile of suck. ;)

AVG is a piece of shit, though. If you're on Windows 7, use MSE; if you're on 8 or later, don't bother with a discrete antivirus suite. They're almost all malware themselves, these days.

@Kiyoshi Aman: dude, i don't even trust microsoft for system updates and i fully disabled those years ago when they started sneaking in updates to force people to upgrade to windows 10 (not going to happen, not now, not EVER!).

New randomizers:
- Borderlands 2 (mod bundle which includes various randomizers)
- Final Fantasy VI (exits)
- Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals (thanks ventuz!)
- Rabi-Ribi
- Super Metroid (items - newer and better than the old one!)
- Star Fox
- The 7th Saga
- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (corruptor)

Other changes:
- Updated link of the Dark Souls item randomizer to always point to the latest version
- Removed the A Link to the Past entrance randomizer variant as it has been merged with the main items randomizer
- shadowevil1996's Borderlands 2 randomizer is not deprecated
- Dessyreqt's Super Metroid randomizer is now deprecated
- Removed the Super Metroid item randomizer HUD from the list as it was designed for Dessyreqt's version

By the way guys, I need help. I know that there's are Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door randomizers floating around made by Zephiles, in particular an item randomizer and a loading zone randomizer, but I can't find good links to them! The best I could find was archives from YouTube video descriptions with no source, no version information and mixed/bundled with other unrelated stuff. I've been unsuccessful in contacting Zephiles too, so if someone could help me find the source of those releases I would greatly appreciate it.

September 25, 2017, 11:17:54 PM - (Auto Merged - Double Posts are not allowed before 7 days.)

Updates:
- Added a bunch of randomizers for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, big thanks to Zephiles for sharing them!
- The list is now too long to fit on the initial post!! I kept only the active & non-deprecated randomizers on RHDN. The full list is now on my blog.
- Added bingo boards (blog only)
- Added non-game-specific corruptors (blog only)

shining force 2... right...mow i remember why i can't use that randomizer. i have no idea where to find a "4mb expanded SF2 ROM".

the only version of that ROM i see on most sites is just the unmodified 2MB version.

Just slap another 2MB of zero bytes on the end. Problem solved.

Steffenfield

The perfect thread I've been looking for online.

I recently watched a few randomizer speed runs of Zelda - Link to the Past on Twitch and that looked super addictive.

Anyway, what are all of the good ones for either Gameboy, Gameboy Color, or Gameboy Advance?

I would love to try them.

Also, can I play any of these Gamecube randomizers if my console is unmodded?

I do have some kind of loader CD that came with a copy of a Japanese game I purchased online some time ago.

Can that be used or is there a way to modify a save file for them?

Thanks ahead.

SmashManiac

Added randomizers:
- Divinity: Original Sin 2
- Donkey Kong Country
- Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls
- Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness (thanks XModxGodX!)
- System Shock 2

Other changes:
- Updated Super Metroid route randomizer link to its new official page
- Fixed Rabi-Ribi randomizer link on abridged list
- Randomizers appearing in abridged list are now in bold in full list
- Added terminology section in full list
- Removed generic file corruptors from full list

@treos: Search for ROM expanders on Google.

@Steffenfield: You may want to check out the randomizers for Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem and Pokémon. As for GameCube randomizers, depending of which one you want to use, you either need the ability to run unofficial games or the ability to apply Gecko cheat codes - not sure if your current setup allows that. By the way, randomizers through save files are extremely rare - the only one I've seen is for Final Fantasy X.
