Replacing SNES music to MP3 files
« on: August 24, 2016, 03:55:03 pm »
Hello there. I'm a game developer who recently got started in ROM hacking. I've been reading a lot on music editing, but I can't find anything on how to put my own compositions into my Super Mario World hack. Could anybody help me with this?

You won't be able to replace the game music with MP3 or any other standardized audio format as the game uses its own format.
I don't know for sure but I would guess such a popular game would have its audio format documented by now. Have you checked around SMWCentral.net?

I looked there, and there is a way to put specific music files, or music text files, into the game, but I don't know how to render a song as that specific type of music file.

Apparently there's a program called TinyMM that will convert MIDIs to txt files, which are the only thing you can use to change the in-game music, so I'll convert my MP3s to MIDI, then convert them to TXT, and use Addmusic to put them into my ROM hack.

I ran into another problem...I can't find TinyMM anywhere....

Update: I found a thread where somebody else couldn't find it, and in the thread, somebody linked them to it. So now I have it :)

Final update: I may be the first person to successfully put one of my own original songs into Super Mario World! My theory worked, and after watching countless tutorials, I inserted my song into the first level.

Cool. Can you create a video with actual footage of the custom song you inserted?
