I also thought I'd mention that the pics might look better if you outline them with black lines. The last hack did that.

The credit portraits.

That looks incredible, Johann!
Superb work as always :)
Will implement it right away!
That should leave only the Dual Crush images to be done, and then we can have a release (I think?)

EDIT:
Implemented the Credits portrait into the game, this is how it looks in-game.

As you can see, the palette lost a bit of colour contrast due to the special palette the Credits portraits use, but still looks good overall and retains the intended colour scheme :)

Here's the download for the Credits inclusion:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xo4izf2vxs6f3vw/Portrait%20of%20Elegance.xdelta?dl=0

Also, I decided to go ahead and make the alternate Symphony of the Night Death portrait patch:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/edj3lxv29id7nbq/SotNDeath.xdelta?dl=0

So people that want the SotN look for Death can apply that one over an already patched PoR ROM and it should all work just fine.

Good that you'll be done by 1.0 release instead of doing it a couple revisions.

hey hello, just i painted stella and loretta's eyes, by the way, I finished the game in all three modes and there is no problem, everything is fine, only when you fight with death and with the invisible man it appears as a giant energy arounds, but it's just a detail, I think or maybe it can be my emulator? No one had this problem?  :P

this is the errors:

What the.
That really got me nervous :-\
Could you perhaps record those parts as a video?
Or perhaps try them out in another as well, I'm sure the saves can be converted.

they keep appearing to me, but I also tried it with a normal rom and it also appears, so maybe it's my pc, so the hack is perfect, no problems.
this is the rom and my save data:

Might have to do with certain emulator speedup settings not being disabled. The Castlevania games for DS are known for needing some specific setup in order to be played fully problem-free. Dawn of Sorrow's HP bar is completely  :cookie:-up when having Desmume's dynamic recompiler enabled.
Helicoptering about till I find some ROM hacking treasure.

I'd suggest Melon DS for testing. It's very accurate and in my experience renders edge cases (like Dawn of Sorrow and Sands of Destruction) correctly, while Desmume cannot.

Gotta say, this problem did get me nervous.
However:

Can confirm it's an emulator-specific problem, not the game itself.
I tested the original game and the hack in both melonDS 0.8.3 and Desmume 0.9.11, and the original and the hack both had the issue in melonDS 0.8.3.
Desmume was the one that had the graphics right.
The images seen above were taken from Desmume 0.9.11 (64bit build).
I tested both the original game and the hack, and both games, as well as both the Invisible Man and Death, show up properly with that build of Desmume.

So glad this wasn't a side effect of the new portraits, what a fucking relief xD

EDIT:
Turns out that turning Software Rendered on in the Video Settings of melonDS seems to fix the graphical glitch too.
So the game should run fine on melonDS as well with that option enabled.

SO I was keeping an aye out for this patch (it's super awesome what all of you are doing), and I was wondering what is left to do to complete it and release it to the public? I could even trying my hand at helping if needed (with sprites/pallets and stuff)

So I went ahead and tried to make the Dual Crush images without dithering.
Here's what I managed to do in an hour or so:

Originals:

My mockups:

They're somewhat rough, but they are coming along nicely.
If someone has any better takes at them, do let me know or post them here!
Just remember, that we are limited to 15 colours due to the palette restrictions. :)

The guy looks good. The woman is kinda strange. Don't know if the mouth should be completely black.

Success! :)

I was able to change the palette (manually) and import the mockups I did with a few touch-ups.
The image you see above is in-game through Desmume.

If at all, I think the project is ready to go, although if someone wants to retouch the mock ups I did to make them look better, here's the images ready for editing (16 color indexed palette):

I feel like the main problems with the sprites is that they're shaded less like skin and more like gloss (especially on Johnathan). It almost looks like they're made of plastic. Maybe if the shading was made softer and something beside pure white were used as the shine, then it'd probably look much better, though judging by the limitations, that'd be quite an issue to work around. As for other critiques, I'd say the lips on Charlotte looks off (alongside that weird shine above them) and that Jonathan looks kinda pale. I'd correct the sprite myself, but I'm pretty busy ATM. Still, good job on actually finding a way to implement them in without making it look like dithered ass.
Hey there
