I’ve given your new file a few touch-ups of my own. Mostly on the face, cape and a bit on the hair.

I’ve been trying to get some of it closer to the source drawing, while also making the shading of the yellow bits fit better in the pixel art.
I love it!
Really nice work! :D

Looks pretty good, absolutely better than the vanilla anime version! Best of luck with this, I'd love to see it completed. It'll be the only way I ever play Dawn or Portrait again if so.

I took some more time to convert Johann's portraits to the ones we are using:

I also tried to port over my Mad Soma portrait I made over at the other topic, but it doesn't translate very well in low res:

As always, if any of you guys want to give some possible ideas of fan art that might fit the portraits, they'd be very much appreciated!

Wow, looks really good!

I will take a look at some fanworks and try contacting the creators.

The last pic would be great for a level with underwater sections.

Here's another quick conversion I made for Julius and Yoko:

Might need some touches but it works.
I'm trying to see what I can do for the Soma sprites, since those along with Mina seem to be the most quantity heavy.

Edit:
I also redid one of the Aria of Sorrow artworks of Soma to fit the Dawn of Sorrow appearance (without the fur):

What do you guys think?
I tried to do it somewhat close to the Mad Soma image I made back in the day.

Have a werewolf howl when Soma changes to the last pic.

Julius worked hilariously well there.  Yoko did as well.  They just need a couple edging touch ups, moreso Yoko though.
'We have to find some way to incorporate the general civilians in the plot.'

'We'll kill off children in the Juuban district with an infection where they cough up blood and are found hanging themselves from cherry blossom trees.'

I will postpone the touch ups for a bit, I wanted to try out actually putting the images into the game and test them out using No$GBA v2.8d. I did a test with Genya Arikado's new portrait, and after the first modification, here's the result in game:

Importing the images into the game is fairly easy thanks to the info Dark Samus provided a few posts back.
With this, we can solely focus on the actual portraits while we can rest assure that the conversion in-game will be loyal to the actual portrait image! :D

That looks really good. I still make the suggestion you don't make reaction portraits. I don't think ayumi would have drawn those as they would have been time consuming and she's a artist. Then you have less fan portraits to find.

Yeah I've been thinking that for a while now.
I could go for the Aria of Sorrow treatment and avoid using reactions, basically just using the same portrait for the same character without any modifications regarding emotions or anything else.

I am still unsure if this will be done or not, I will wait and see until all characters have a main portrait.
But how are you going to do Celia/Dmitrii/Dario?

I found this:
http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/castlevania/images/8/8c/Dos_wp_dar_1024.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/185?cb=20141224060719
Yeah I do have that image.
If you look a few posts back, Johann posted a link in which he had all of his work, inside are several mockup images for Claudia, Dmitrii and Dario.
I have retouched the Dmitrii one a little bit, and the one for Dario I simply modified it to not have such a huge fronthead haha.

Check them out if you can, I continuously look for fanart or some other designs that might look close to the remaining characters to modify them to look even closer to the DoS ones.

Ah, yes, so you actually have all of them!

Wouldn't that practically mean you have enough art already, if you're going to do without reaction portraits?

Also, is it possible to remove the animé FMV from the beginning of the game (not replace, just remove)?

Not quite, I still have to implement the rest of the portraits and test them in-game.
Also, I want to see if I can find some good artwork to match that of Celia, Dario and Dmitrii. I know there's gotta be some artwork there that fits them. xD

As for the anime FMV, I'm not sure, and that's something out of scope for this hack.
It'd be nice, I have to agree, to completely remove all traces of anime from the game, it would be amazing, but I'm not sure where the FMV is located in the ROM since all the data extracted is in either .BAT or some other odd format that's not the usual NDS formats.

Hmm...

I will try and look some more for fanart concerning the three antagonists.
