Hello everyone,

Sorry if it's not the right place to post this topic.
I'm doing Star Cruiser translation. In fact, I'm pretty much already done it: only about 1-2% of text left untranslated because I didn't encounter it during my playthrough. I'm currently replaying it to find this untranslated bits.

Important thing is that I have almost no Japanese knowledge. And also not that great English knowledge (not good enough to write without numerous mistakes) as it's not my native language.
So, as you may already guessed, translation from Japanese was done using Google Translate, Excite and online dictionaries. So it's probably not fully accurate. But it's not just machine translation, I made sure I got meaning from each line (which was pretty tough at times) and story plays out properly. No meaningless bullshit anywhere.

Right now game is fully playable, with a few drops of Japanese from some obscure places that I'll fix when I find them. But before release I'd like some native English speaker to play it and help me to fix my terrible English. I can send translated game and script. Is there any volunteers?

TO DO:

  • Determine correct English transcription of some names (Tomovsky, Gervin, etc.) - Done, need checking
  • Translate people ranks and titles properly - Done, need checking
  • Fix mistakes, typos and untranslated parts - Done, need checking
  • Cleanup and replace some dirty hacks with "proper" ones - In progress
  • Retranslate Japanese text if someone with a good knowledge of it can help me with that - Anyone? :)

Known issues:

  • Beacons list is messed up. Will be fixed soon.

UPDATE (08/29/2016):

With invaluable help from cccmar and KenshinX everything looks much nicer now. Numerous typos and mistakes was cleaned out, missed text was mostly translated, translation was successfuly playtested.
Now it resembling something that at very least can be called "beta". Which I'm planning to release in September to hopefully receive feedback about any other remaining problems.
Stay tuned.  :)

UPDATE (09/01/2016):

As I promissed, I'm ready for the public beta release.
You can grab it here.
ZIP archive password: cruiser
Enjoy.  ;)

UPDATE (10/07/2016):
Second public beta release is ready, hopefully fixing all the issues that were reported so far.
You can grab it here. It's the same link. Without password this time.  ;)

UPDATE (11/05/2016):
Release.

Please, report any bugs and errors you'll find with a screenshot. Thanks in advance!

This looks like it has a Phantasy Star 2 look to it. Does it use the same game engine?

Hardly. Gameplay itself is nothing like Phantasy Star 2.

Looks promising and I've wanted to play this one for a while. Hope you find someone that can help.
I'd probably be able to point out any errors with the english text but it's not my native language either and I don't know japanese.

Very happy to learn that this is happening. The quality of the English text in the screenshots looks strong!

I might be interested.
I'm an ESL and History teacher so I do this sort of thing quite a lot.
How many pages is the script? Just let me know before I know if I can commit or not.

Fantastic news, looking forward to the finished released.

Hey everyone,
we still need some help with the game. We're mostly done with the script revision, but it would be cool if somebody else gave it an additional pass or two, so as to iron out certain things and perhaps rephrase some stuff if need be. We've made a lot of progress since July, as a matter of fact. We managed to find the missing bits of text, to work out certain technical difficulties and to improve the quality of what was already translated into English. If anyone wants to help, contact celcion please (it's about 4000 lines of text). :)

cccmar: Sorry for the off topic, just want to congratulate and thank you for Dahna: Megami Tanjou. A gem of a game that I now hope more people take notice.

Np, soon enough you will be able to help us out a bit with Star Cruiser as a thanks, as that one is naturally much more challenging in terms of script length/testing.  :o The release date of the beta patch isn't too distant, I can assure you. :woot!:

celcion

Public beta released.
Any help with testing will be very appreciated. :)

Cool, I'm sure you'll find some native speakers who are willing to help over at sega-16.com's forum if you post there.

Yes, I agree, but my account there is still not fully activated, I can't post anything. :)
Maybe moderators from Sega-16 forum will notice this and activate my account.

cccmar

I've submitted the announcement, so perhaps more people are going to learn about the open beta and grab the patch. The more people see it, the better. And yeah, it takes forever to have your account activated on the Sega-16 forum these days for some reason. We'll see what happens. :)  :woot!:

Wait a minute? Why is the patch file are in password?

Is that important? Password is specified in the first message.

Digitsie

Is there a format it needs to be patched as? (.md, .bin, .gen?)

I used Star Cruiser (Japan).md from the No-Intro set, but bin/gen file from the Goodgen set should be OK too, I suppose.

This seems to be a game that benefits from the overclocking feature in Regen Debug. :)
