That like 18 of the last 20 Sonic games were complete garbage has nothing to do with their genre or their color palette. This is desperation right there.

You can have any opinion you want. I don't really care if you find watching paint dry to be the most amazing thing on the planet. But this is a discussion board. If you post an opinion, expect people to comment on it. If that causes you social anxiety, I'd suggest keeping your opinions to yourself. If I write that game xyz is bad for some reason that is my opinion about the game. If you consider that a personal attack, that is your problem. It's sad that people get so invested in franchises and mascots that they take it personal how much other people approve of them.

What would you compare people who get hyped again over a franchise that failed to meet expectations over and over to? Stephen Hawkins? Homer Simpson is not a real person. He is a cartoon character. That scene is hyperbolic commentary on repeating human behaviour. I'm sorry you don't appreciate the Simpsons.

The only thing plotwise that I got attached to about Sonic games was in 3&K when they did the cutscenes.  It was handled perfectly, and even a little scene showing how they got to the next zone was just enough to feel like it was one big journey instead of just going zone-to-zone.

Exactly! That's all the plot one needs to see in a Sonic the Hedgehog game.

They're not cramming bajillions of characters in. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, done. Maybe there are secret characters if you collect 100 widgets or something. But keeping the character roster down to minimum and (presumably) keeping the story out of the way of going fast and smashing badniks are plusses in my book.

They already tried that in Sonic Colors and Sonic Lost World, didn't they?

I got Sonic Adventure and thought it was ok. Didn't care for the story bits.

I kind of got into rock music at that point and lost track of gaming...but uh, from everything I've heard, yeah, the franchise has been run () into the ground.

But the thing in this trailer looks actually good for a change, I dunno why people gotta be unpleasant.

I don't blame them for hanging on. Some times it pays off. For example, I thought the first Aura Noir album was awesome but every time they released something after that I was always disappointed and almost gave up on them. Then, a few years ago they released "Out to Die" and suddenly they were firing on all cylinders again. Had I given up on them completely, I would have missed out on what may very well be my favorite album from 2012.

All Sega has to do here is leave the team alone to make this game and make it correctly. It looks like a good game precisely because of who's developing it, but Sega still has the potential to pull a stupid and ruin it by forcing its release early, intervention, etc. Never underestimate Sega's ability to ruin anything. Their management lately is like the opposite of the hand of Midas.

Definitely homebrew, its been programmed in headcannon engine probably (http://www.headcannon.com/HCGE/)
as for the remixed Green Hill I'm hoping for one of three things

A. Its just there as a test level
B. Its a bonus stage
C. Its part of an optional Retro mode
