Played Saints Row 3 on Ps3 awhile ago and loved it, played perfectly.
Put it back in yesterday and it don't work at all
Every time I start a new game the game freezes a few seconds into the opening cutscene,
if skipped it freezes in subsequent scenes, the loading screen, or a few seconds into the first mission,
Music and sounds continue to play during the freeze as well, controller becomes locked.

So far I've tried
Changing screen resolution
Reinstalling game data
Rebuilding database
Complete reformat of Ps3
playing without any patches
and various combos of the above, and nothing works, disc is basically pristine.
can somebody suggest anything that might be able to get this game working again?

Hmmm how are your other games playing? I ask because it sounds like what Saints Row 2 and other games were doing to me shortly before the blu-ray laser died on my PS3.

All my other games work fine I think (I need to check more thoroughly though) My sister was playing Saints Row IV just the other day with no troubles at least, I hope its not the laser having a conniption again, they cost way too damn much to fix.

Have you updated the game? if so take that off.

I had this problem, don't remember if it was for saints row or Red dead redemption though.

Also frozen on character/map select when I tried to enter Whored mode from main menu.
Checked The Last of Us, which was the harbinger of doom last time, but no errors there either.
Freeze on Credits accessed from extras menu, I think the only thing that doesn't freeze the game is the main menu.
New hdd causes music to crash as well.
Also checked several other games and all of them work.

Disc is likely bad. Can you try with a download or somebody else's disc?

Honestly, given how cheap the game is now, you're likely better off buying the GOTY edition used or new to replace the one you got.

I dunno maybe, honestly the disc looks almost perfect, only a few minor scratches that only show up if I get the disc wet to clean it,
Also just tried swapping the hdd, problem persists but with a new wrinkle, now the sound cuts out as well, thats progress I guess , If I can lure my friend over here I'll see if I can borrow his, last resort I'll just get steam version for mod support.
