So for the image below, I feel that the text is somewhere in there for this game, as every other folder has files that are either pictures, or SFBs, etc.

This is all inside PS3_GAME -> USRDIR -> data_ps3

I think I can ignore on the costumes/font/gamedata/savedata folders since there's nothing that looks like it could help me in there, so all I'm left with are .pam files, .bin and .vdm.

Just looking at PAM files, it seems like those are just videos probably?  So I guess I'll ignore that.

It could either be one of the bin files or VDM I am guessing... right?  I am not sure though I guess.

Just a note that the game is in Japanese - and the game in question is Gal*Gun on PS3.

Text is probably encoded in Shift-JIS or UTF-8 or UTF-16, all supported by Crystaltile2's hex editor.
You try passing files you suspect have text by that hex editor.

Of course, there's the (slightly unlikely) possibility that the text is uncompressed, or a pre-baked graphic.

Shift JIS eh?  I found something like that on this site after you said that.  I'll load it up on WindHEX and see if I can find anything in each .bin file.  Thanks.

What game in particular do you want to translate?

Gal*Gun on PS3 (Japanese).
I hope someone will translate some Japan-only rpgs and Japan-only Yakuza games but that's probably not likely given huge size of PS3 games.

I think that there are fan projects for both Ishin and Kenzan. But yeah, there is a lot of great stuff we didn't get here in the west.
