Hey Burnt, are you still alive?

December 04, 2019, 03:57:53 pm - (Auto Merged - Double Posts are not allowed before 7 days.)
NOTE: I will change any Name, Item , Summon, ect, that Square-Enix has used throughout the series.  Any names that are exclusive to Final Fantasy VII (AKA, never mentioned in Crisis Core/Advent Children/Dirge of Cerberus or any other game) I will leave as DLPB/Luksy has it.

At least keep in mind the names the remake may localize.
Who knows? Maybe Choco Bill and Choco Billy might keep their names for the remake.

At this point, maybe someone else wants to take the reins? I sent him a PM (he was last active February 2019) just for updated links on the two patches, and I really want to play FFVII with the current English canon names and spells. It doesn't seem like anyone got the patches when the links were working (2016, I believe). If you do, please send it to me.

I heard Burnt Lasagna was specific when he/she said he/she'll get back on the project (and update those links), once the Retranslation Project gets the R07 update, which is supposed to be the upcoming final update for the Beacause Retranslation patch for FFVII on PC.

It's not uncommon for Authors to take long hiatuses in situations like this when it comes to waiting.

It's a classic "downstream" flow of updates. The PC Purist Mod gets the update, then it can be ported to the PSX Purist Hack, then it can be ported to the PSX Canon Addendum.

Meh, patience is how we got KH3 and DQXI, so I'll just wait 'til it's ready.

Does anyone have these patches? Links are not working and there must be someone who has downloaded these patches back in the day.

Thanks to "Rodimus Primal" I now have the "Canon Addendum" patch. Originally it was divided in two parts:

Quote
FF7-Because.zip

And then:

Quote
FF7-Canon(v0.3).zip

The patches must be applied in that order, which is boring so I combined those and here you have the Canon Addendum in a single pack:

Beacause Canon Addendum v0.3 (129 MB)

It includes a "readme" file with some useful information. If you don't have the original ISOs please contact me using the form of my blog:

https://ff7translationproject.blogspot.com/

Maybe a moderator could edit the first post and include the download link.

Regards

I'm glad I was able to find the patch on one of my hard drives. I was getting PMs of folks looking for it and I knew I had downloaded it at some point. Glad I was finally able to help.

Nope not a joke. I happened to find the file on an external drive and then I saw Green Goblin's post about it and PM'ed him about it. Luckily he figured out how the patch was meant to work and now it's a combined file. I eagerly await any necessary updates it will have.

The patch being posted on April Fools is just a funny coincidence, but this is not a joke my friends.

I am so happy to have this and excited for future updates but I do have request. I'm aware that a lot of people probably prefer the terms Barrier and MBarrier for FF7 but I am personally more fond of Protect and Shell. Would it be too much of a hassle to allow an optional addition to the patch for these 2 changes?
Regardless, I appreciate the work put into both the Because retrans as well as this canon addendum.

Looking at those patch notes that I'm shocked there was that many original game bugs, and how much content it broke.

Hats off to you all for bringing the original closer to its "original" intent; I..."EDIT":

I just found all the documentation on the Lifestream regarding the fixed dialogues; very nice.

Also is the beta patch pretty safe to use? No new bugs introduced?

Hello, I was originally playing the original patch, but decided to switch after finding out about the Canon Addendum.

I switched right before the Rude and Reno fight near Gongaga. However, entering the Materia shop in Gongaga on Canon Addendum crashes the game. This does not happen on the normal patch.

Hi there. I noticed a few bugs with the canon addendum patch where the game is stuck on a black screen. This doesn't happen on the original patch:

•Disc 1 - When you're chased by Dio into the battle arena in gold saucer
•Disc 1 - When Esto gets you into the chocobo race, when the race is about to begin

Haven't tested with regular battle arena and chocobo races yet

Edit:
•Disc 1 - Entering the Accessory/Materia shop in Gongaga crashes the game (as already posted by ApostropheM)
•All Discs - Entering the basement in the Shinra mansion crashes the game
•Disc 1 - During the tiny bronco cutscene the game doesn't continue past Cid's last text box just before the crash landing (happens on canon addendum and original patch)
•All Discs - Participating in gold saucer's battle square gets you stuck on a black screen including story related participations like when you're getting the keystone
•All Discs - Chocobo racing gets you stuck on a black screen
•Disc 2 - Entering the tunnel during the Midgar revisit glitches the game graphics (only in addendum patch - tested on Beetle PSX HW)

Minor translation errors / inconsistencies:
•Aqua Breath / Aqualung: It's Aqualung in the command menu of a manipulated enemy and Aqua Breath everywhere else in the game (only addendum, original patch has Aqua Breath even in the command menu)
•Midgardsormr / Midgar Zolom: It's called Midgardsormr in dialogues but Midgar Zolom in battle (again, only addendum)
•When Elana stutters Reno's name in Wutai she says "L-Reno(...)" so the addendum patch didn't include the stutter when replacing Leno back to Reno in this case
•When Barret shouts Marlene's name during diamond weapon's attack on Midgar, it isn't changed back from Marin to Marlene in the addendum patch
