There is a fellow over here who is pretty far along in hacking Goemon 3 and 4 (he says he will also be doing 2). All he needs now is a translator and the projects are guaranteed completion. But seriously, it could really use a retranslation. Beyond the poor script, certain background signs were simply wiped of text rather than left alone or localized. The character names that were invented for the English version are painfully bad.

Yeah, so how's that going? Weren't you doing something like this to the first one or am I thinking of someone else?

I saw the work you are doing, and it looks amazing. I am a major Goemon fanboy and have been dying to play the Japan-only titles in English. I am unbelievably grateful for this project, and I know I'm not alone. The only thing I am wondering about is why you decided to remove some of the Japanese font (such as the sign for the bath house, inns, etc) and replace it with English text. Not even the US versions of the games Konami did give us had those things altered. Either way, it's only a minor quibble, because your progress looks fantastic.

I have another question regarding Goemon 3. The person I'm in contact with said he had trouble with the pointers in that game. Did you encounter the same problems? If so, do you have any solutions I can relay to him?

Unfortunately Avicalendriya has stopped working on Ganbare Goemon 2 and has transferred all his graphics work done for it to Gideon Zhi.

Is it ok if the discussion from the other thread continues in here? I don't know why the other one was locked. The project isn't "dead" since other people are working on it now (I think).

For now, this should be a good place discuss the Goemon translations. When I make more progress on Goemon 3 I'll make my own thread.

Right now, my graphics decompressor for Goemon 3 is pretty much done. I've made a lot of progress on the custom script dumper too.

My script dumper gets around the scattered pointers; by reading pointers from a pointer location list.

Once the script dumper is perfected; I'll be able to dump the games script and I can find a translator.

The thing that will take the longest is finding the locations of the scattered pointers.

Unfortunately this is false. He initially said he would, but when I asked I was turned down. Which isn't to say that I don't still have my own work (including a fully translated main script and several hacked graphics); it just doesn't look as nice as the screens Avi posted.

Yes, you're right. That was a very old post, LOL

. Someone else is continuing work on it, that's what I've read. But if you, Gideon, do want to release your own patch then don't be afraid to do so! I'm sure many people would be glad to see a possible two competing patches for a same title!

That is great news! So glad to see that many powerful romhackers are working on these Ganbare Goemon games! By the way, are all of the #2-4 GG games on the SFC similar in the way the pointers work and what not?

Do you have any that you could share?

Either way, I think most people would be satisfied with just a translated main script/NPC dialogue. It wouldn't be as complete as what Avi was working towards, but it's still better than nothing imo.

The pointers in 3 are all over the place, but 2 and 4 are relatively stable.

What a coincidence this topic is seeing some movement very recently. The translation to these games are so often in the back of my mind; some of the most fun 2 player co-op games ever made to this day still unplayable in english. Regardless it never stopped me from firing up ZNES and forcing friends to play through it via netplay despite not understanding a thing. Figures it'd be Konami's games that tortured me like this (still holding out hope for Kippy on Suikoden 1&2 psp)

So Avi's last locked topic has left me restless. The way he left the thread to me it seemed he left the status of his work ambiguous. It's unclear that he left his assets with DDS, only saying he thanked him iirc. Is DDS working with Avi's old assets? Are Rai and Gideon carrying on with their own separate versions? This project has to move somehow, curse or not. It's just too good of a game to leave in limbo like this imo.
