Thanks a lot! It's too bad there's a conflict between our patches. It really shouldn't be too much of an obstacle to move something around. I could check my asm and provide a way. I see you also made a few palette changes to enemies. Those would have to be redone as well, obviously...
Hi Gedankenschild! :)
Saw this post being bumped so I thought to drop you a line regarding this. The team and I are making some final changes to FF4 Ultima as we speak, but once that's all said and done, would you like to chat about the possibility of making these graphical changes possible with my hack?

Thank you and let me know! :)

Cheers!!

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the long silence, but I've been busy with another hospital stay that took quite some time.

Thanks for all the interest, well wishes and compliments. I really appreciate it!

Before the hospital I actually did quite a bit of work on the patch. Mostly planning and editing maps, that requires some time since the versions handle things so differently. Thought about announcing something, but wasn't sure about it and then didn't get to it...

I still got some health stuff to take care of, but I'm already better and working to improve things further. Can't wait to continue the hacking, it's on my mind regularly!

@8.bit.fan:

I'd love to help making the patches compatible. Gotta look where the ASM is. A bit of the battle stuff is still on the PC and I've only used laptop and smartphone for like over a year now, I guess!
I wanted to look into that anyway. I have to start finishing certain parts and not always get into the next area of the game before I drive myself crazy.

It's a bit late, but I think Project II would be compatible with this right off the bat. That would be awesome!

Gedankenschild, I'm super glad to hear you're doing well. If there's anything we can do to help, let us know!

Hope things continue to get better

Just checking in how everyone is doing, and the status of the project.

Nilar

wow this project looks so awesome. The amount of details can be improved over the original game is shockingly good.
I do hope that project is still on going

Hey there. I want to first say thanks again for all the kind words and get-well wishes I have received. They are truly appreciated!  :)

Believe it or not, there's finally some patch-related news to report. I submitted a new version to the site which features revised code and fixes the following:
- Fixed Wall spell looking glitched sometimes
- Fixed palette rotation when spell hits enemy
- Fixed Leviatan/Ogopogo shadow (bugged in WSC original)

I also finally figured out why my 4bpp menu portraits ASM wasn't working when moving characters around and so Advance version portraits are now part of the hack. Of course which one of the many versions of the game has the best portraits is something to be discussed, I merely went for these because they were easy to convert and I had them already...
Tell me your opinion!

There's also two new patches included, we now have one for each version of the game: II (US), IV (Japanese), and Easy Type.

I don't have a lot to add other than to congratulate you on progress; I did wanna say that I find it a testament to the need for RHDN (and the Whirlpool before it) that "Easy Type" in this case does not refer to the kind of game version it is; literally "easily read typography." As in, it uses more hiragana/katakana for things, that would be harder for young children to read in Kanji.

It took me years (and Legends of Localization's FF4 feature) to finally realize this is why it's called FF4 EasyType.
Yamero~~!

Final Fantasy IV for the SNES/SFC doesn't have kanji in the first place to replace. Simplifying vocabulary for younger readers is not exactly "typography".

I can tell you really enjoy correcting people.

Don't take offense. Just be chill. We know what you mean.

That is awesome news!

As for the portraits, the GBA ones are ok, but I personally prefer Amano's designs better.
Maybe the Pixel Remaster portraits could be used?

I think we should just give people the choice and make two different patches with the portraits

Brutapode89

Woah! Perfect graphics! :D Will be it compatible with translations and hacks?

Cris1997XX

Is this one compatible with Namingway Edition?

Gedankenschild

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! :)

Of course letting everyone choose their favorite portraits would be ideal. It's also a lot of extra work.
The pixel remaster ones might look like SNES graphics, but they're not. The ones I looked at all went beyond the 15 color limit, so they'd have to be carefully edited first.
Right now I'm busy with other things, maybe I'll take another look in the future. Or someone else feels up to the task?
I'm certainly interested in people's preferences nonetheless.

When it comes to other hacks I try my best to keep things as compatible as possible! As long as a hack doesn't move around the graphics I changed, there should not be a problem.
I tested Namingway Edition with the ff2us patch and it seemed to work perfectly well.
(Apply my patch AFTER the Namingway one!)

Yeah, I checked a couple of days ago at it works just fine! I'm used to the GBA/PSP portraits myself, so I'm perfectly okay with their addition here

tsushiy

hello, Gedankenschild and everyone.
Thanks for the great patch!
I tried to introduce portraits of the pixel remastered version.
Please take care of yourself.

Very nice, tsushiy!
How far did you get with them? Did you manage to convert them all?
