I hope it's okay to revive this topic.  This is my first post here, and I'm pretty new to romhacking in general.

First of all, thank you Artemis for your work on Lufia 2!  I've just been revisiting many old games (via a Retroid Pocket 2), and I've fallen in love with this game all over again.  I decided to patch with Spekkio, and it has been really interesting thus far.

I just made it to the Ancient Cave, and was intrigued to see what the experience was like after reading your explanation of changes.  I've never played an SNES title, or a Mystery Dungeon-esque game, with save states.  I was able to get to the Master at level 50.  I have pretty good equipment I think?  Also, as a side note, I got all of the Iris Treasures in my single run; it was crazy!

However, I'm at a loss for how to defeat the Master, or even how to functionally complete the dungeon if I'm unable to defeat it.  I've tried putting Mirror on it, healing it, using various items, casting weird spells, etc., but I can't figure out how to deal with it.  Also, when I either try killing myself or just lose, the same thing happens in either scenario, and then I'm just stuck in the final room.  Is there no "win" or at least "lose effectively" condition anymore?  What if I don't have a Providence?  Am I just permanently stuck in the final room if I can't take on the Master?

I hope that makes sense.  Thanks so much for your thoughts and guidance!

Artemis

You can always leave right after the Master battle with a Providence. And you always WILL have a Providence after that battle. If you lose your Providence after the battle, you're stuck for all eternity, though.

Did you beat Gades?

Oh interesting!  I guess that means a Providence is inserted into your inventory if you don't have one post Master battle?  I do have one, so it isn't a big deal; it just seemed like a permanent condition if you had managed to reach that point without one on hand.

Is it possible to reach the Ancient Cave before beating Gades?  Are you asking if I beat him in our first encounter, or if I've passed that part of the storyline?  I failed to win the first time I encountered him (he wiped the floor with me), but have already beaten him in storyline terms.  Or... is there a version of Gades in the Ancient Cave somewhere (maybe wild speculation)!?

Yeah.

And I meant the very first Gades encounter.

Okay cool.  Does the outcome of the first Gades battle affect the encounter with the Master?

Hello! Apologies for the thread necro, but I have a question.

I've been playing through Spekkio Lufia and have been enjoying it a lot so far: however, I've heard a couple of people who've also played the mod warn about the final bosses: in particular Erim and Gaos look as though they've been made so tough that even a party that's in a level range of the mid-90s will struggle with them.

At least one Let's Player I saw play through the mod had to spend hours grinding stat potions just to be able to defeat Gaos, and I'm worried that I may end up having to experience something similar once I get to the final Sinestral battles.

Is there any plan for future updates to the mod to rebalance the final bosses? This appears to be the one consistent problem I hear about in what is otherwise a pretty fantastic mod.

Artemis

The deal with these final two bosses is: Having a high level just isn't as meaningful against them as some players think. You might struggle even at level 99, whereas on the other hand they are perfectly beatable at around level 40.

As I said in another thread: You just need a decent grasp of all of Lufia 2's battle system mechanics. That is, if you get overwhelmed your first thought better is "How can I optimize my strategies and tactics?" instead of "I have to grind to level 99 and farm stat potions for hours!".

No plans to rebalancing these final bosses. However, in recent newer versions some of the prior late-game bosses are upgraded so that the difficulty spike is reduced and they hopefully teach better now what it takes to bring down the final bosses.

Hey!

I would love to play Spekkio, but it is possible to apply the patches to the german version as well?

No, Spekkio only works with the US version.

And finally a somewhat major bugfix update.

Ok guys,

I can't for the life of me figure out how to defeat the Master in the AC... any hints?

I do have a Gade's Blade... that was asked to someone before. No clue if it has anything to do with it XD
