Hi !!! My name is J.M.. I try to modify the game " Dragon ball Budokai Tenkaichi 3 " but i don't understand the .unk file format. I have 2 files, both with .unk extension, the first one contains sounds like "Aghh, oh no..." , and i'm sure that file is .adx format or similar and the second one contains an image, but im not sure what's your format. How could i open the d*** .unk files? Reverse Engineering? I'm not sure about this. I don't understand anything about this subject and i'm glad we will help me...how to extract the image file from .unk file , to modify image with photoshop and then reconvert to .unk format to display in the game? and... how to extract the sound files to modify it and then rebuild it into .unk format.

There is a high chance that the files are custom archives. You are going to have to write an unpacker so that you can access the contained subfiles.

I investigated about unpacker & packer software.. The issue is that i should know the file's structures.. I have an image using reverse engineering with the software IDA Pro. I analyzed her .elf file, called "SLUS_216.78 " and I get this one...



Audio Files are compressed in a special format and the images too, I do not know how to continue and need your help

That's an ELF file. Skimming the header shows that it's mips and a shared object, which means that the game loads additional code from it on demand.

Really, try one of the many automated file type identifier programs. And a hex editor too.

i was found a software called "QuickBMS" but you need "0x...." offsets.

I am more concerned about the beginning of the file. I suspect that it might contain a pointer table. But I can't see a pattern.

Probably is it compressed by an SLZ Algorithm? We can search an bin unpacker....or what?


I'm more interested about to extract an image from .unk file

I have both .unk, the first one is  the original unk,  the second one is the new .unk that contains a new image, are you interested?
