I am so overjoyed that this is finally out!

Been using this R06g patch for my very first playthrough of FF7. Did the entirety of Midgar yesterday and so far it's been nothing short of a blast.

However, I may or may not have found an error. During the crossdressing sequence in Wall Market, after I got the 200 gil from the vending machine and gave it to the materia shop owner, one of his lines afterwards to get the Diamond Tiara (I unfortunately did not get a screenshot of it) started with "something something: Gold Edition", followed by something about "I heard that guy has been up to no good", which led me to believe that it might have been a mistake.

All that being said, I can't wait to see the rest of what this game and this translation has in store. I extend my sincerest thanks to both GreenGoblin and the original creators of the Beacause retranslation, and also look forward to what the future holds for it. Thank you!

Use Makou Reactor to see dialogues.

I made an account purely to thank you for all the time and effort you've put into the PSX translation, Green_goblin. I didn't want to be another silent user; so thanks for continuing to update and provide the community with this content. It's much appreciated!

GJ, GG! I've been waiting for this project to be done for a long time! (Mostly so I can finally play the cannon addendum on my phone! :D)

Are there going to be any significant changes between RO6g and RO7?

I tried it with the Lucky Tifa (Miss -> Hit) patch, and then the Retranslation + HardType + Chicago patch, and while it works on psxfin.exe, it is displayed as corrupted on a PSP. I'll try repatching it in a few days.

Have you tested it on real hardware?

I guess it's not good to apply several patches at the same time. You see, PSX games are very delicate because they are CD based. I suppose that the Tifa patch is designed to work on the original game and only the original game. My hack severely modifies the game structure and CD sectors, hence the problems you are seeing on the PSP.

I do have a PSX but it's not chipped so I cannot test the game with that setup. However I've beaten the game using Beetle PSX (Retroarch), which is considered the closest emulator to the real PSX.

I decided to hold off on my next playthrough of FF7 for a few months until you finished this up and it was certainly worth the wait. Thanks a lot to you Green_goblin, DLPB, and everyone else involved for the retranslation & bugfixes to try and make this game the best it can be.

It's worth adding the pdf link to the main page (romhacking.net/translations/2340) when you can so people don't miss out, I was a bit confused where to download the files from at first. I guess you might be holding off until some more of us have time to go through so you can squash any issues that may be left though.

I played through the retranslation on the pc version, but the reduction in visuals from the lack of dithering/scanlines (amongst other oddities) and the way that the game controls differently certainly detracted a bit from the experience. So, I'm glad that someone was able to come through and port beacause into the psx version so that I can feel like I'm playing the real deal on beetle psx. All the bug fixes that come along with it are just the cherry on top.

I'm up to the shinra building in midgar and took a few screenshots with some of the line changes that stood out to me. I'll be sure to let you know if I run into any issues, none so far though and I've been talking to every npc I can. Thanks again!

Yes that's the main reason. R04c is relatively stable, but this new R06g is newborn and not fully tested, so I need you guys to beat the game and let me know if everything is ok before updating the main page. I will also have to create new screenshots of pinnacle moments.

I'll edit this post to keep track of any errors/quirks I find. Currently up to Junon.

  • One of Cloud's lines during the Kalm flashback (while him, Tifa, and Sephiroth are at the Mako spring) is "Now you mention it...", though it should probably be "Now that you mention it...", since it's immediately followed by him asking a question in the same sentence.

The Lucky Tifa "patch" is actually a set of edited SCUS files, one of which I imported into the game with CD Mage before I applied your patch. I applied it first to prevent overwrites of your work. It didn't alter the size of the SCUS file either. Unlikely that this caused the issue.

I also ran an EDC/ECC correcter after importing the Lucky Tifa file and applying your patch, as I always do with PS1 games, which has fixed other broken games.

I could apply just your patch to disc 1 and see if the issue persists. Maybe I screwed up the *.bin -> Eboot conversion somehow.

The instructions mention utilizing the correct ISOs. Does that not include bins & cues?

I use ISO as a generic word, not as a file extension. BIN and CUE files are also compatible.

what type of gui patcher do you recommend? Because when I was using Delta Patcher, it refused to recognise the CD patches, due to them being in XD format.

You can just rename the files and change .xd to .xdelta and they'll work.

Not significant, just the odd thing here and there, minor corrections, etc.
Before R07 we will have R06h by the way.

In the readme you've noted that: All windows repositioned (DLPB) [not yet]

I did see in the Discord that DLPB plans to steadily work on this alongside the remaining PC specific issues, due to it being an overall long process; hopefully it'll be finished by the PC's R07 release.

If I may ask, do you plan to include these window adjustments in the PSX R07 release?  (Would this only be applicable to the original font--is the Chicago font larger in width and require larger windows?)

Yes that's another improvement planned for R07 and yes I will implement it as well.
It is applicable to all fonts, as position means X and Y coordinates, not width and height.

Now I saw the reason why it freezes when I talk to Tifa after waking up from the Avalanche hideout in Seventh Heaven...
