Yeah, although I think the original intent was to replace them with lithium batteries. Not sure exactly what happened there, but it probably involved the realization that swappable CHR-ROM enabled every Dungeon enemy to appear on the same spritesheet (minus a few sacrifices). Similarly, the Traps (hashtag-looking things) and Wallmasters were removed for lack of meth-related counterparts.

Speaking of Wallmasters: I've been playing the 3DS remake of Ocarina..., and have taken particular delight in bypassing that stupid rock GREZZO put at the Bottom of the Well entrance via the Acute Angle Clip + Cucco Glide trick. It occurred to me that, from the Cucco's perspective, Link must seem like a Wallmaster himself! And since the Cucco doesn't enter the subdungeon with you, it's safe to say he probably respawns in the village at his preset "entry" point... just like Link does when grabbed by a Wallmaster! So now I'm wondering if every Wallmaster going back to the days of Zelda 1 wasn't really an enemy, rather some sequence-breaking mercenary just using Link to further its own agenda?
Ahh right totally forgot about those guys. That's pretty hilarious too by the way. Wallmasters suffered in the original from being too weak and too slow. If you saw them coming 99% they were dead. Give them the snake's movement and they'd be a threat.

So I got everything time for 2nd Quest!

Except maybe that one item not sure if I need to do something special for it...

Play the cornet during a cola bomb explosion and you get 40's era Iowa!
Spoiler:

Unfortunately it fixes once you leave the screen

Yay!!!
So, what'd you think of Overworld Screen #42? (hide spoilers)

I'm srsly considering offering a prize to the first person who reports successful discovery/acquisition of what I suspect you're intimating.

One thing I keep forgetting to ask about is that screen with the blue/yellow rocks. There's this randomly spawning(as in it always seems to be switching places) fire. It seems deliberate, but with the way it pops up in different paces, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be there?

Spoiler:
The 4th pitchfork that you'd kind of mentioned before. My guess is it's related to kill count like the red overalls, which by the way is driving me insane trying to get on the second quest. Or possibly those weird hints in the final lab that I didn't really get.

So, what'd you think of Overworld Screen #42? (hide spoilers)
Spoiler:
Seems like the place where Bob lives and it's a cute callback to the title screen. I imagine a Romeo and Juliet type story between the cow and pig.

Also some overall thoughts: An overall enjoyable experience. The original Zelda is one my all time favorites and this puts a spin on it that I'd never have thought of. It really becomes it's own game and if some of the items were altered a bit more you might not even know it was a Zelda hack. The art style was initially off putting but it really captures that early video game feel along with the inanimate objects that are enemies. Speaking of personally I'd have preferred if the enemies were all animals/druggies etc. but it's nothing that ruins the game. The animated water and things things are cool additions. The flashy screens are one thing I really don't like and am glad you didn't do an all out rave level(assuming 2nd quest doesn't have one that is) The difficulty curve goes up at level 4,5,6 and then down for 7,8,9 I breezed right through them. Not really sure if that was intentional or maybe a byproduct of getting better items. Some of the secrets were a little out of the way but that's acceptable since you don't need them to complete the game. I actually had fun putting together a map to help with that. I look forward to your next project and hopefully it moves along a little quicker.

Ah- that's Enemy #3F, what I dubbed the "Mortal Flame". It has a cadre of random spawn-spots; I thought it just looked cool to have in that dead-end ore mine in rural Illinois.

There's a really cheap way to score the Purple Coveralls early on in both quests. Turns out the original game
Spoiler:
counted each strike against immortal entities as a "death" for accounting purposes...

If you're doing a Dragon Warrior thing I will literally die of excitement.   :woot!::cookie:  Never been a huge RPG fan but I love that game. Much like Zelda it's at the top of my favorite classic NES games. Oh snap just saw your other thread!

Yeah, the original inspiration sorta fell onto me during a quaint walk in August 2007. Over the years, the concept grew in scope to encompass the primary gimmicks of the three hacks to proceed it: (1) Overt Obscenity, (2) New Soundtrack, and (3) Total Conversion. In short, Ghetto Warrior is intended to be my magnum opus.

I still need to work on getting through Iowa, but if Ghetto Warrior is even more magnumus and more opussy than this I think we're in for a treat

I'm resolving right here & now to use "opussy" in a sentence at least once a day.

Hey Floppy,
Thought you might like to know this...
There's a retro game con in upstate NY near where I live. It's still in its infancy, so not huge, but it happened this past weekend.
Anyway, this guy was one of the panelists, talking primarily about the homebrew NES scene, but one of the topics he touched on was homebrew vs hack (knowing, I guess, that at least half of the attendees were completely unaware of this hobby/way of life of ours).
Anyway, be had a flash cart full of homebrews and hacks to show off the different things that have been done in both areas, and one of the games he showed off specifically was Legend of Iowa.
Thought you might get a kick out of that.

Indeed!

What was the general reaction?

Well, for reasons I totally get, he didn't get deep into the details of what goes on in the game, though he did give a subtle chuckle as he brought it up that would have only been understood by someone who knew.
It was mostly for the purpose of "anybody recognize the source material here?" He didn't spend that much time on it, and I think I was too preoccupied with "hey I kinda saw that getting made" to pay attention to other people's reactions (sorry).
