The Legend of Iowa [UPDATE: Version 1.13 Released!!!]
« on: April 17, 2015, 01:39:17 am »
The Legend of Iowa

Hack of: The Legend of Zelda (NES)
Type: Total Conversion
Author: Dr. Floppy
In Association with: BaddestHacks.net
Production: 2008-2015
Get It!: The Legend of Iowa, Version 1.13

Featuring

* Original Storyline
* New Overworld
* 18 New Underworld Levels
* New Soundtrack
* Never-before-encountered Enemy Combinations
* New Graphics
* New Enemies / Bosses
* More Colorful Layouts
* Tons of New Secrets!
* Expanded ROM & Upgraded Submapper
* Background Animations
* A Fourth Sword!!! Absolutely nothing of interest.

Known Issue with NEStopia & PowerPak: If the game "blacks out", press Select on Joypad #2 to force Screendraw.

Another Known Issue: I intentionally resurrected the "Infinite Iowa Piece" glitch, so as to allow people to reclaim what's rightfully theirs and then some.

The old Death Counter has been retasked as an Iowa Piece Counter, hopefully resolving this dastardly string of problems once and for all.

The name alone sounds absolutely epic! Are there any screenshots to share? I saw the help wanted ad for the chicken a while back but I don't think I could have improved what you had already. But the title sounded so mundane I thought it had to be good.

I was wondering when I'd see a thread for this one. Sounds like an epic new quest to go on!

Syeah, there's definitely gonna be screenshots of this badboy posted this weekend! I'll ever be in debt to myself for not promoting the hack more, but considering all of the production delays, it's likely an earned punishment!

Very cool Floppy, I tried to post on this last night, for some reason it wouldn't go forward with the post.  Anyway, this looks like a fun concept, I'll be looking forward to it!  Usually when the theme is obviously this much fun (who doesn't love Iowa right?) the gameplay is at least equally entertaining.

If you need any play testing assistance let me know.  :thumbsup:

James T. Kirk is from Iowa. He only works in outer space.

A rare seasonal view of the Title Screen.

Srsly, that behind-the-counter business -IS- bullshit!

Iowa is known for its colorful landscapes.

Farmer Bob encounters a Methromancer.

Iowa is also known for its bizarre climate shifts...

What's a total conversion hack without proper acknowledgments?

Be careful what you wish for!  ;)

But srsly, I really need some dedicated players to vet the living hell out of this thing subsequent to its initial release on 4/20. If there's a game-breaking glitch or some such other high-priority problem, I want to know about it. I already have a specific (aesthetic) update planned for the end of the month, but the more I can shoehorn into that update, the better!

Just another day on the farm...

The forests of Northeast Iowa are full of rabid rabbits.

Some of Iowa's neighbors also get screentime! Here's what's going down in Nebraska...

Some meth labs contain contentious mini-bosses.

Others, not so contentious...

At long last, Farmer Bob finally finds a Sudafed™!

You're the second person to report such. I'll look into it.

Update: Okay, is anyone (other than myself) *able* to see the images?

I can only see the image with the intro text.  Maybe try Photobucket as another "free" alternative.

Here, for instance. It seems to animate based on what's seen in other screenshots, so it might look a bit less surreal in motion.

I'm not complaining of course. This is far from the most serious or most realistic hack that's ever been made. What's a little acid trip water when you're a farmer breaking into meth labs to get his hands on decongestants?

It looks interesting. I wonder who or what could possibly be waiting at the end in place of Zelda when you defeat the Governor??

The graphics remind me of the old DOS games we used to have on our old Windows 3.1 powered lump of a computer. That's in no way meant as an insult though. If the graphics were too detailed it might undermine the simplicity and straightforward nature of Farmer Bob's existence. I do quite enjoy the rabbit and chicken sprites too.
