I've learned a LOT about hacking graphics and using utilities from my Final Fantasy Reconstructed project. I just wanted to post 1 warning:

DO NOT ALTER THE EXITS IN THE TITAN'S TUNNEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although I'm going to write an FAQ about hacking Final Fantasy since I've learned everything I know now about hacking from this project, I just wanted to save other people the headache that comes from accidentally altering THOSE exits. I'm using the FFHackster utility, which allows you to recreate the levels and sprites, and essentially will change game related code for you. I accidentally messed with that exit early on and had to scrap an entire project because I couldn't figure out how to fix it. I actually had to create an entirely new exit routine and entry coordinates to get it to work, otherwise you warped right outside of Coneria city and back to the Titan's tunnel, making it a loop that you couldn't escape from. After 2 hours I fixed it, and I will be happy to help anyone else who has the problem. But if you don't alter it, it won't happen. Just change the tiles AROUND the exits. I hope this saves others the hassle.

Yeah Hackster is loaded with bugs.  I recently kicked around the idea of writing a "FFHackster 2.0" to modernize/fix it... but it has since grown into very different project and it'll take a while to complete (if I ever actually do).

I still know the game (and Hackster) pretty well, so if a problem like that comes up again you can ask and if I see it I'll try to respond.  (You can PM me if I don't see it and you really want my input).

Rofl.

When I first read the money-quote I initially perceived it as "Texas Tunnel".

Those of you who were around during the early days of Web 1.0 know EXACTLY what mental-image *that* phrase conveyed!!!

Thanks Disch for the offer. I might have to message you if I mess up that bad again. I was just really worried that if I didn't figure it out, I was going to have to start all over again with my map changes. I've probably put close to 12 hours total into re-doing the different maps so far, and that's a lot of work to throw away. Figured if I could help someone else to not have that headache, especially since if you put the exit back down, it won't work right.

^ This would be epic if you would complete it!  :D

@JCE:  Yeah I've been working on it the past few days.  I was planning on posting something on the Personal Projects board once I get the first editor screen functional -- but until then I don't really want to get into details.

Right on Disch. I have been editing more of my project today, but somehow some way FFHackster completely moved the warp location for the Caravan all on its own. I didn't mess with that part of the game until today, and somehow instead of warping to a portion of Crescent Lake where Grond had built a mini Caravan map, it tried to warp me to the outskirts of Elfheim where all I could do was move to a warp tile back to the desert. I fixed it, but it certainly took me by surprise. An updated version of FFHackster would definitely be helpful. I'd love to see FF3Hackster completed too if you have anything to do with that. I might tackle FF3 next if I don't do something with FFIV instead. Thanks for the replies everyone.
