Hello! I was just wondering what hacks were the best/most popular so I decided to do a poll. I know there are a lot in the list but just vote for the ones you have played. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

VOTING PROCEDURE

  • You will rank each hack 1 though 10, 1 being one that sucks, 10 being one that is awesome.
  • If you don't know about the hack you can skip them, don't vote if you feel uninformed!
  • I will take the average rankings of all the hacks and place them from the highest to the lowest.

Thanks.

I was just about to vote for my 3 favorite hacks...
But they're not there.

You are only taking into consideration original hacks that have some sort of change in gameplay/story?

I just found a list online. I actually made this to try and see what hacks are worth playing. If I've missed any good ones out please say which and I will add them in.

To start, take a dive into the Rom hacks section in here and type in the search Field "Pokemon".
You will see A LOT of hacks that are still missing in your list.

I.e. the ones I currently use for all my generations of Pokemon:
1) Pokemon Thunder Yellow
2) Pokemon Crystal: Emu Edition
3) Pokemon Emerald - Complete National Dex

For the remaining generations, I forgot the names.
Volt Black and Volt white 2 are for Gen V, and I think either Pokemon Origin Platinum or Pokemon Perfect Platinum is the one for Gen IV.

And that's just scratching the surface. XD

Chronosplit

Thanks for the plug. :v

I'll admit that I'm not really much for the hacks that have new regions or stories.  If you'd like a taste of how far hacking mechanics-wise has gone, try Yet Another Fire Red Hack.  Or if you're really adventurous, Touhoumon Purple.  CrystalDust is a great Crystal remake that tries to be as accurate as possible, but it's a WIP.

For on this site I'd probably recommend:
Throwback
Crystal Emu Edition
Complete Hoenn Dex Edition

I have been looking for ideal emulator versions for future playthroughs per generation. What makes these ideal specifically in your opinion?

Thanks

it makes them great because you don't need to trade or do anything related to another version, you can catch all of the Pokemon available in that version without going of that ROM.
Same goes for trade evolutions, wild Pokemon, TMs, etc.

Really good candidates if you want to keep the original feel of the game and gameplay mechanics without restrictions.

All the hacks I mentioned in that post serve the same purpose.
Some of them do some gameplay and team changes to the game, but those are included in a separate patch.
Most of those include a Vanilla Patch that just makes all the Pokemon obtainable within the same game, no other changes made to the main game.
